Every action we take has consequences and repercussions. This includes the times when we react reflexively or choose not to respond at all.

Once you understand that the impact of your decisions will extend far beyond yourself, there's only one question left to answer: What kind of difference do you want to make?

But ADHD symptoms don't magically disappear the day a person turns 18. And anyone who fails to get appropriate care may be at increased risk of several other serious problems, including substance abuse and addiction.

If someone that you care about was struggling with a mental health concern, you'd be quick to offer whatever support they needed.

But what if you're the one who's in crisis? Would you treat yourself with the same compassion? Would you even notice the signs that something's wrong?

Often, the earliest warning signs are significant changes in areas such as:
👉Mood
👉Appetite
👉Energy
👉Motivation
👉Sleep habits

Remember: You can't be the best source of support to your loved ones if you're ignoring your own mental health needs.

Welcome to National Eating Disorders Awareness Week!

This year's theme, Every Body Belongs, reminds us that eating disorders affect people of all sizes, shapes, races, genders, and backgrounds.

When we eliminate stigma and push back against misinformation, we remove barriers that have prevented people from seeking the care they need.

If you've been struggling with disordered eating, or you know someone who is, please know that help is available and treatment works.

Nodding off in class or at work isn't the only way that insufficient sleep can disrupt your life.

Sleep deprivation can also increase your risk of myriad health concerns, including:
☹️ Heart disease
☹️ Hypertension
☹️ Anxiety
☹️ Depression
☹️ Relapse

If you're not able to get seven to nine hours of healthy, uninterrupted sleep on a regular basis, you may want to consult with a doctor or therapist. Resolving your sleep problems can improve your health and protect your recovery.

Meet our new referral relations manager, Angelique Owen!

Angelique is a dedicated professional who brings a deep understanding of recovery to her role at North Atlanta Behavioral Health

When she's not helping referrants find the optimal placement for their patients, Angelique enjoys hiking and exploring new places around Georgia and nearby states, cheering for her son’s basketball team, laughing with her husband, and loving their dogs.

"I am grateful to work alongside people who truly care and are passionate about helping others," she said. "I know what it’s like to feel hopeless and I am grateful to work alongside others in helping individuals find that hope."

Welcome, Angelique - we're so proud that you're part of our team!

If you came up short, that means you must have screwed up somewhere along the line, right?

Not necessarily.

Maybe you just weren't ready yet to take on a certain challenge. Or perhaps you needed the knowledge that can only come from failure.

Whatever the reason, failing doesn't mean that you're a failure - especially if you gain valuable information in the process.

As the old saying goes, sometimes you win and sometimes you learn.

For many people in recovery, holiday gatherings can be particularly challenging. And for many Americans, Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest holidays of the year.

You don't have to skip the game to protect your sobriety, though of course it's completely OK if you do.

What's most important is having a plan in place and people you can rely on.

🏈 How do you plan to stay safe this weekend?

Discussions of alcohol-induced health damage often focus on people who can't stop drinking once they start. But even so-called controlled alcohol use can be problematic if it becomes a habit.

If you average 15 or more drinks per week, you may be exposing yourself to severe, potentially irreversible health damage.

You don't have to get blackout drunk or binge drink on a regular basis to be at risk. Just two or three drinks a day can be dangerous.

If you can't curtail your alcohol use on your own, North Atlanta Behavioral Health is here to help:
