It’s Occupational Therapy Month!

We will be introducing you to our incredible OTs and COTAs. We asked them a few questions...

Our next COTA is Clarissa Dutchover. She has been a COTA for 9 months.

What inspired you to become an OT/COTA?

My own kids inspired me to become a COTA. They both required early intervention services, and being able to see their progress firsthand really motivated me to want to help other families in the same way. I’ve always wanted to work in healthcare, and I love that OT focuses on making everyday life skills easier and more meaningful.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is seeing progress, especially when it’s something a child or family has been working hard on. I know what that feels like from a parent’s perspective, so being able to support both the child and their family means a lot to me. Even the small wins are huge and watching kids gain confidence and independence is the best part.

What is your favorite activity to do during sessions?

I love doing themed crafts and snack activities, plus anything fine motor. It keeps the kids excited and engaged, and honestly it doesn’t even feel like “work” to them. I’m big on turning everything into a game, so even simple activities end up being fun while still targeting a bunch of skills at the same time.

Fun Fact:

I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles with my grandma as a way to unwind. Once I start one, it’s really hard for me to step away until it’s finished.

It’s Occupational Therapy Month!

We will be introducing you to our incredible OTs and COTAs. We asked them a few questions...

Our first OT is Lori Davidson. She has been an OT for 9 months and a COTA for 13 years.

What inspired you to become an OT/COTA?

While working at a daycare, I had the opportunity to observe occupational therapists working with a variety of children. At first, I was not fully convinced, as it seemed like they were simply coming in to play. However, over time, I saw each child make meaningful progress in different areas of development. Watching those changes inspired me to learn more about the profession, and after doing my research, I knew this was the field I wanted to pursue.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is helping the children and adults I work with become more independent. Whether that involves using adaptive equipment, learning new strategies, or finding what independence looks like for them, it is incredibly meaningful to be part of that process. Seeing their excitement and sense of accomplishment when they are able to do something on their own is the most fulfilling part of what I do.

What is your favorite activity to do during sessions?

I have many favorite activities, but one of my top choices is cooking. I enjoy it because it is always a hit—whether I’m working with children or adults, they consistently engage and have fun. Cooking also targets a wide range of skills and overall independence, making it both enjoyable and highly functional

What is a fun fact…

My favorite show of all time is Friends 🧡

It's Occupational Therapy Month!

We will be introducing you to our incredible OTs and COTAs. We asked them a few questions...

Our next COTA is Melanie Mysza. She has been a COTA for 4 years.

1. What inspired you to become a COTA?
I was inspired to become a COTA and pursue a career in occupational therapy because of its holistic approach. I value that OT looks at the individual as a whole--addressing not only physical abilities, but also mental and emotional well-being. This perspective allows me to support each child in a meaningful and individualized way.

2. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Every part of it is rewarding. What others may see as small or insignificant progress, I see as a huge accomplishment. The "good" days, when my kiddos achieve something new, are incredibly fulfilling-but the more challenging days are just as meaningful. Those moments help us better understand what works and what doesn't, allowing us to move forward toward their goals. I also love that occupational therapy is constantly evolving, which keeps the field exciting and allows me to continue growing as a COTA.

3. What is your favorite activity to do during a session?
I enjoy incorporating crafts and food-based activities into sessions. I especially love when kids create something they can take home and continue using with their families, allowing therapy to carry over beyond the clinic.

4. What is a fun fact about you?
I've always considered myself a creative person. I enjoy exploring new hobbies, especially in the realm of art, and I love using that creativity to come up with fun and engaging activities for my kiddos.

It’s Occupational Therapy Month!

We will be introducing you to our incredible OTs and COTAs. We asked them a few questions...

Our first COTA is Shelby Gamboa. She has been a COTA for 4 years.

1. What inspired you to become a COTA?
I became a COTA because it's a career that addresses the health of a whole person-mind, body, and soul. I wanted to do something that was hands-on and people oriented.

2. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is probably when parents notice a positive change and growth in their child, and I know that I am making an impact that reaches into their everyday lives.

3. What is your favorite activity to do during a session?
My favorite activities to do during sessions are probably cooking activities, because who doesn't like a snack? 😜

4. What is a fun fact about you?
I am training for a triathlon, but I am afraid of bicycles.
