Water is the secret ingredient that keeps your body moving and your chiropractic care lasting.

When you are well-hydrated, the discs between your vertebrae remain plush and resilient. These discs act as shock absorbers for your spine, but they rely heavily on water to maintain their height and cushion. Dehydration can cause these discs to lose volume, which increases friction and makes it harder for your spine to stay in alignment.

Hydration also directly impacts your muscles and connective tissues. Dehydrated muscles tend to be tight, prone to spasms, and more likely to pull your joints out of place. When your muscles are flexible and nourished, they support your skeletal structure rather than working against it. This is why staying hydrated is one of the most effective ways to ensure your adjustments "hold" and your body remains balanced.

If you find that your adjustments aren't lasting as long as you’d like, try increasing your water intake. It provides the fluid environment your nervous system needs to communicate effectively and your joints need to stay mobile.

Helping your body stay aligned is a team effort. Drink your water, move with intention, and we will see you at your next visit to keep everything in sync.

Optimizing athletic performance requires a sophisticated understanding of how the nervous system coordinates movement. At Fowler Chiropractic, we utilize a specialized approach to sports medicine that integrates low-force chiropractic care with the principles of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization according to Kolar.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization is a clinical protocol based on developmental kinesiology. It focuses on achieving proper joint centration and stabilizing the core through optimized breathing patterns and neurological control. When an athlete maintains ideal postural alignment, they reduce compensatory patterns that lead to repetitive stress injuries and mechanical inefficiency.

By pairing these stabilization techniques with low-force chiropractic adjustments, we provide precise neurological input to the spine and extremities. This method allows for the correction of joint dysfunction without the significant physical strain often associated with traditional manual manipulation. This integrated approach helps to restore efficient movement patterns, increase power output, and accelerate recovery times.

Whether you are a competitive athlete or a weekend enthusiast, our goal is to enhance your biomechanical integrity and prevent future injury. There is nothing quite like that first cup of Saturday morning coffee, especially when you feel productive for waking up at the crack of dawn at 9 am.

Once the caffeine kicks in, the weekend to-do list usually takes over. Whether you are strolling through the local farmers market or tackling a big landscaping project in the sun, remember to move with intention.

If your Saturday plans involve heavy lifting in the garden, be sure to brace your core and lift with your legs as you move those bags of mulch or soil. Protecting your spine during yard work ensures you can actually enjoy the results of your hard labor rather than spending the rest of the weekend on the couch.

If you happen to overdo it or feel a tweak in your back while working outside, do not worry. We are here to help you get back into alignment. Give us a call and we will take care of you on Monday.

Is your dog the real "master of the house" when it comes to the mattress? We love our furry family members, but if you’re waking up in a pretzel shape because your pup has claimed 75% of the bed, your spine is likely paying the price.

Here are a few tips to help you get a restful night’s sleep—without the morning neck and back stiffness:

-Support the Gaps: If you're forced into a side-sleeping position on the edge of the bed, place a pillow between your knees. This helps keep your hips level and prevents your lower back from twisting under the weight of a heavy sleeper (human or canine).
-The "Pillow Border": Use long body pillows to create a gentle boundary. It gives you a dedicated space to align your spine while still letting your dog feel close.
-Post-Sleep Recovery: If you spent the night huddled in a corner, don’t reach for a neck roll. Instead, try Wall Angels to reset your posture:
1. Stand with your back flat against a wall.
2. Tuck your chin slightly and press your arms and the back of your hands against the wall in a "goalpost" position.
3. Slowly slide your arms up and down like you’re making a snow angel, keeping your back and elbows in contact with the wall.
4. This opens up the chest and strengthens the mid-back muscles that get overstretched while you’re "guarding" your spot in bed.

Don't let "paws-poor" sleeping habits lead to long-term aches! If you’re struggling to shake that morning stiffness, give us a call at the clinic. We’re here to help you (and your spine) find some relief. 🐾💤
