Did you know your brain can actually ignore one eye?
This is called suppression.
When the eyes aren’t working together properly, the brain may “turn off” input from one eye to avoid confusion, double vision, or eye strain. While this helps the brain feel more comfortable in the moment, it can lead to problems like:
• Poor depth perception
• Eye strain or headaches
• Difficulty with reading or tracking
• Reduced binocular vision
The tricky part? Most people don’t even realize it’s happening. We can use tools in vision therapy to check for suppression.
The good news is that vision therapy can help train the eyes and brain to work together again, reducing suppression.
👀 If your child covers one eye when reading, tilts their head, or struggles with visual tasks, a binocular vision evaluation may be helpful.
