The chiropractic profession is unique in the healthcare industry. We are typically not considered primary care or emergency care providers but we have always stood proud and tall in support of our fellow healthcare workers and first responders. During 9/11 recovery efforts, many devoted chiropractors were right there providing care to emts, firemen and policemen.

During this current COVID-19 outbreak, Rotterdam Family Chiropractic will remain open to continue to provide care. My first thoughts during this time were of my patient base. We currently treat many nurses, police, and firemen that are being pushed beyond their limits.

If you have a non-infectious or non-emergent care issue we will be there to help you with your aches and pains and overall wellness.

I took this photo to show what we were doing down at Ground Zero. The workers there were very appreciative. Most of them were working around the clock while dealing with so much physical and mental pain. We were able to assist them in taking some of that stress away so they could continue. I (along....

Your feet support the entire weight of your body. Even though your feet may not hurt they could be the source of your pain - particularly back pain. Ask your doctor how custom orthotics can help!

In “Association between utilization of chiropractic services for low back pain and use of prescription opioids: Preliminary results of a health claims study,” Whedon reports what he found through examining the New Hampshire All Payer Claims Database. Of roughly 33,000 adults registered as having low back pain, slightly over a third saw a chiropractor. Of these, 38 percent had at least one opioid prescription. Of those who did not see a chiropractor, 61 percent had at least one opioid prescription.

The core question that interested Whedon was how many prescription fills the two sets of insured patients received. Those whose opioid prescription was integrated with chiropractic care had an average of 3.9 fills. Those who did not receive chiropractic manipulative therapy averaged 8.3 fills per patient. He estimated that the average per person opioid charges were $88 for those using chiropractors. The figure was $140, or 60 percent higher for those not using chiropractic care.

Whedon’s conclusions were, first, that the likelihood of filling a prescription for a high-risk drug of any type was 27 percent lower. Secondly, the likelihood of filling a prescription for an opioid analgesic was 57 percent lower in the chiropractic-using population.

Dr. Christopher Tomaselli

During the course of my education I came across a quote that inspired me personally and motivated me to become a doctor of chiropractic. About 100 years ago, Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human body, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” His invention has had a great impact on society however his words are less known. The chiropractic philosophy focuses on strengthening the body and promoting optimal health rather than passively treating symptoms. Every time I am able to help a patient pursue the activities they enjoy, and live a life free from pain gives me great satisfaction and the motivation to continue providing the best care that I can.

As a doctor of chiropractic it is my duty to use my knowledge about the workings of the human body and the structure of the skeletal system to determine the cause of your complaint. It is my responsibility to educate you about the cause of your complaint and the different options you have for care. It is my moral obligation to provide you with safe and effective treatments and encourage you to uphold sound healthcare practices to promote optimal health.

Today’s healthcare environment is as fast paced and hectic as the world we live in. When you walk into my office you will feel at home. Every patient is greeted with a warm smile, personal attention, and extraordinary care. It is important to me to get to know you as a patient as well as a person. We can work together to build a strong doctor patient relationship, and collectively we can achieve your healthcare goals.

On a more personal note, I have grew up in Schenectady County and have lived in New York state all my life, having gone to Mohonasen HS, Union College, and then New York Chiropractic College. I have been in private practice for over 13 years. I currently reside in Ballston Spa with my wife Jessica and our three children, Daniel (8), Mia (6), and Carson (3).
