It can be deeply upsetting when someone with dementia suddenly lashes out. If you are on the receiving end, it helps to remember this: aggression is often a reaction, not a choice. In many cases, it is a sign of confusion, discomfort, overstimulation, or a communication breakdown, not a reflection of how they feel about you.
