The Center for Shamanic Education and Exchange presents the work of Indigenous Mexican Wixarika (Huichol) artist Benigno Carrillo Bautista.

Together with his wife Margarita Carrillo Reza, brother Ángel Carrillo Carrillo, and their family, Benigno creates intricate yarn paintings and beaded sculptures that embody the Wixarika cosmovision — sacred stories, symbols, and allies expressed through color and devotion.

Each piece is crafted by hand, pressing yarn or beads into wax to bring to life the Wixarika relationship with creation and the spirit world.

✨ Presented in collaboration with the Center for Shamanic Education and Exchange, dedicated to preserving Indigenous wisdom and artistry.

🎭 Hosted by ArtUs Co, a nonprofit, artist-run space in Austin supporting affordable studios and inclusive opportunities for artists to create, exhibit, and connect.

Sacred Altar Workshop & Community Breathwork Ceremony 🌹

Join us for a sacred evening of community, remembrance, and healing. Together we will learn how to create and tend an altar for Día de los Mu***os (or personal), honoring our ancestors through offerings, flowers, and prayer.

Guided by Roots & Remedy Council Member Marisol, we will also journey through a community breathwork ceremony — a powerful practice to release, restore, and reconnect with our inner light.

This gathering is an opportunity to slow down, honor those who came before us, and remember that collective care is medicine. ✨

Some of us carry wounds that aren’t just personal — they are generational, systemic, collective.

Colonialism. Oppression. Erasure.

Breathwork, when held with care, becomes an act of resistance.

✨ A way to reclaim the body.
✨ A way to decolonize the spirit.

When I say decolonize the spirit, I mean peeling back the layers of shame, disconnection, and hierarchy that oppressive systems have left within us. It’s remembering we are not separate from land, body, or community. It’s honoring ancestral wisdom that was silenced. It’s coming back into the body as sacred ground. And it’s refusing to measure our worth by domination, instead choosing dignity, liberation, and connection.

This session is especially for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and allies who long for a space to breathe fully, safely, and without judgment. Together, we’ll drop into ourselves, soften into flow, and build resiliency that can sustain us through the week.

Your breath is sacred. Your story matters. You belong. 🌈

I want to be really clear about this…

If you’re living with anxiety or depression and you’re still drinking, you are working against your own healing.

Alcohol is a depressant. Period.
Yes, it can feel like it takes the edge off for a moment. But the science is undeniable—what it actually does is disrupt your brain chemistry, shrink vital brain regions, increase anxiety after it wears off (“hangxiety”), and worsen depressive symptoms over time.

Even “casual” or “moderate” drinking isn’t safe here. Studies show that just one drink a day is enough to cause measurable changes to brain structure and function. That’s memory, mood regulation, and emotional resilience being chipped away sip by sip.

And the cruel cycle?

Drink to feel less anxious → temporary relief → rebound anxiety that’s often worse than what you started with.
Drink to lift depression → brain serotonin and dopamine disrupted → mood crashes harder.

If you’re trying to heal, to reclaim yourself, to find balance again—alcohol is not your ally. Your brain can recover when you stop, but not while you keep pouring the poison in.

✨ My message: If you’re struggling with depression or anxiety and want to overcome it, stop drinking alcohol. Your healing depends on it.
