REHABBING IN REAL TIME WITH DR. C.C.
On today’s episode…Dry Needling and the Neubie 💉⚡️

Heavy deadlifts ➡️ left-sided low back pain.

Instead of ignoring it… I addressed it.

Today I started with DE-LOADED single-leg strengthening on my left side and immediately felt that familiar low back discomfort. That told me something important: the weight isn’t the real problem — my back was being overloaded because something else wasn’t doing its job.

So I made an adjustment.

✔️ Dry needled my glutes and lumbar extensors to reduce protective guarding
✔️ Reset motor control
✔️ Retested single-leg loading on the Shuttle

Same movement.
Same load.
Significantly improved tolerance.

That’s what strategic intervention looks like.

Not “just rest.”
Not “push through it.”
Not random stretching.

Assess → Treat → Retest.

And yes — while managing my back, I also had some bilateral knee irritation after 4 hours of sand volleyball. That’s where the Neubie came in. ⚡️

The Neubie allows us to:
• Improve neuromuscular activation
• Reduce joint irritation
• Improve movement efficiency
• Restore load tolerance faster

Recovery doesn’t mean stopping.
It means adjusting intelligently.

If you’re lifting through low back pain, knee pain, or “nagging” issues that won’t go away — you don’t need to stop training.

You need a smarter plan.

Let’s build strength without setbacks.

Nnamdi lifted with right shoulder pain for years. He could get through workouts but would suffer for it later.

Heavy bench press? ❌
Overhead work? ❌
Pull Ups? Forget it.❌

For a long time, he trained in pain without a real fix.

But here’s what changed 👇

He stopped separating rehab from training.

He worked with OBK Physical Therapy to:
✔️ Restore shoulder mobility
✔️ Improve joint mechanics
✔️ Reduce irritation and tissue restrictions
✔️ Build stability the right way

At the SAME time, he trained intentionally with a coach at OBK Fitness & Nutrition to:
✔️ Strengthen through full ranges
✔️ Load progressively
✔️ Reinforce better movement patterns
✔️ Build real resilience

And now?

He’s benching heavy.
Hitting PRs in unbroken strict pull ups.
Confident.
Pain-free.
Strong.

This is what happens when rehab and performance stop competing… and start working together.

At OBK, we’re united under one mission:
To help the Central Texas community get stronger and build confidence for a lifetime — through fitness, nutrition, and physical therapy.

Whether your goal is:
🏋🏽 Heavy bench press
👶 Picking up your kids without hesitation
🏃🏽 Getting back to sport
💪🏽 Feeling strong in your own body again

You don’t have to choose between “rehab” and “training.”

You deserve both.

If you’re in Round Rock or the surrounding Central Texas area, and you’re tired of being limited by pain instead of fixing it…

My name is Dr. C.C. 😊 Doctor of Physical Therapy & owner of OBK Physical Therapy in Round Rock, Texas… and I still tweaked my back during heavy deadlifts.

Left-sided low back pain after lifting.
Not from doing something “ridiculous” or because “I didn’t know better”.
Not from bad form.
Just from training hard and accumulating load.

And here’s the truth most active people — especially those in the Round Rock area — don’t hear:

You don’t always need to stop lifting.
But you do need to adjust.

In this video, I modified my Power Sn**ch by:

• Reducing load to stay below symptom threshold
• Cleaning up my bar path to avoid drifting forward
• Increasing time over the bar and oblique activation to stabilize my core and decrease pressure on the lower back
• Focusing on lat engagement to control lumbar extension
• Improving left hip stability to decrease asymmetrical load

The goal wasn’t to “push through.”
The goal was to train around irritation while building capacity.

Back pain in athletes isn’t usually about fragility.
It’s about load management, positioning, and progressive exposure.

If you’re frustrated because your back keeps flaring up every time you try to lift heavy again — you’re not broken.

You might just need a smarter progression.

I’m documenting my return to full power output in real time.
No shortcuts. No ego lifting. Just intentional rehab.

If you’re navigating a back flare up and want guidance from someone who lifts AND rehabs athletes — send me a DM that says “BACK.”

Let’s build you back stronger than before. 💪🏽

Low back pain doesn’t mean stop lifting.
It means adjust intentionally.

Most lifters either:
❌ Push through it and flare it up
or
❌ Shut everything down and lose momentum

There’s a third option:
✔ Modify load
✔ Adjust stance
✔ Control asymmetries
✔ Build tolerance strategically

That’s what we do at OBK Physical Therapy.

🔧 Building Something Bigger Than Equipment 🔧

At OBK Physical Therapy, we’re not just assembling machines — we’re building stronger humans.

Today we’re putting together our new Shuttle system… and with it, a more intentional way to restore lower body strength the right way. 💪🏽

Why does this matter?

Because lower extremity rehab shouldn’t jump from “rest” to “full speed.”

It should be progressive. Strategic. Measured.

With the Shuttle, we can:

🔹 Introduce graded exposure to full weight bearing after surgery — rebuilding confidence in the joint without overload
🔹 Start deloaded plyometric training earlier in rehab — because tendon and ligament recovery requires progressive elasticity training
🔹 Apply precise, progressive resistance to retrain quad, hamstring, calf, and glute strength
🔹 Bridge the gap from basic rehab → dynamic control → explosive return to sport

For post-operative patients, this means controlled loading without fear.
For athletes, it means restoring power without skipping steps.
For active adults, it means rebuilding strength that actually lasts.

Strength isn’t rushed.
It’s built — layer by layer.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing here.

Stronger tissues.
Stronger movement.
Stronger return.

🔥 BIG NEWS at OBK Physical Therapy 🔥

We just added a Shuttle system to the clinic — and we couldn’t be more excited about what this means for our patients. 💪🏽

This isn’t just new equipment… it’s a new level of care.

Lower body strength is the foundation for:
✅ Pain-free walking & running
✅ Knee and ankle stability
✅ Hip control & power
✅ Injury prevention
✅ Confident return to sport

Research consistently shows that inadequate lower extremity strength is a major risk factor for reinjury — especially after knee, ankle, and hip injuries. Strength isn’t optional. It’s essential.

The Shuttle allows us to:

🔹 Safely apply progressive loading — because tissues adapt when they are gradually and intentionally stressed
🔹 Control resistance and joint angles to rebuild strength without unnecessary irritation
🔹 Introduce graded plyometrics — a critical step for return to sport and higher-level activity
🔹 Transition patients from early rehab → power development → sport-specific performance

You don’t just need to feel better.
You need to be stronger than before.

At OBK Physical Therapy, we don’t guess your readiness — we build it.

If you’re recovering from injury, preparing to return to sport, or want to move with confidence again, we’re ready to help you level up. 🚀

The best way for you to maximize your results in physical therapy is to be given a customized plan of care and to fully understand your rehabilitation program.

Returning to sport is more than the specific exercises to improve your mobility, strength, stability, power output, speed, load absorption, force production, and every other attribute an athlete desires to possess.

Returning to sport requires education concerning your anatomy, tissue healing, goals, and progressions. It requires that you understand and are invested in your plan of care. It requires teamwork between you and your doctor of physical therapy.

At OBK Physical Therapy, we’re all in concerning your care and rehab goals 💪🏽
