Tiny hands, BIG work happening 💛🍪
Our sweet girl worked on matching puzzle “cookies” — a little tricky for her age — but that didn’t stop her! In between figuring out the fits, she made sure to “feed” us and take a few pretend bites herself.
Play is never just play.
She was building fine motor skills, visual matching, problem-solving, and social imagination… all while making us giggle.
The best kind of therapy? The kind that feels like cookies and fun. 🍪✨

Two swings. One balloon. Endless giggles. 🎈
What looks like just a game is actually core strengthening, bilateral coordination, timing, motor planning, visual tracking, and postural control all wrapped up in FUN.
These two met at KidSHINE and quickly became the best kind of teammates — the kind who challenge each other, encourage each other, and turn “work” into something they don’t even realize is therapy.
This is what happens when connection meets creativity. 💛

I’m glad he left us a good strategy to do before our rehab aides clean up this mess!!! 🌈🎨

What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy helps children build the skills they need for everyday life—like playing, learning, dressing, eating, and participating at school and home.
Through play-based activities, pediatric OTs support skills like:
✨ Fine motor development
✨ Sensory processing
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ Coordination and body awareness
✨ Independence with daily routines
Every child develops at their own pace, but sometimes a little extra support can make a big difference. 💛

We might have a rodent problem… 🐿️
Just kidding—it’s a gopher crafted by one of our creative kiddos making a surprise appearance from the tire!
Crafts + imagination = the best kind of fun at KidSHINE.

Watching little hands turn tissue paper into something beautiful 🌼
This kiddo cut her tissue paper, folded it accordion-style, wrapped a pipe cleaner stem, rounded the edges, and carefully fluffed each layer to create the petals.
What looks like a simple flower is actually:
✂️ scissor control
🤲 bilateral coordination
💪 hand strength
👀 visual motor planning
✨ patience + creativity
By the end, it looked like a dahlia / hydrangea masterpiece — and the pride on her face was the best part.
Play is powerful. Creating is powerful. Kids are capable of so much more than we think 💛

Our hearts are so full 🤍
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate 10 years of KidSHINE with us. This milestone would not be possible without the incredible families and community who trust us, support us, and grow with us every day.
A huge thank you as well to everyone who participated in our silent auction — together we raised over $1,000 for a family in need. That’s the kind of community we’re so proud to be part of.
Here’s to the next 10 years of shining bright ✨

Ten years ago, I took a leap of faith and started seeing clients in my finished basement — borrowing my kids’ toys, putting up swings and a zip line, and building something I believed kids needed.
I was a single mom of three, juggling motherhood and a dream. What started small but full of possibility has grown into something so much bigger than me.
KidSHINE has become a community — a place where neurodivergent kids feel safe, strong, understood, and celebrated. Some of my very first preschool clients have come back as teens, interns, and visitors. Those full-circle moments mean everything.
I may have started KidSHINE, but it became what it is because of the people — our incredible team, families, and kids.
Join us Saturday, February 28th from 2–5pm at our Rowley location as we celebrate 10 years 💛 Free admission, open gym, snacks, silent auction & more!

One idea.
One determined kiddo.
And a whole lot of follow-through. 💛
Last week, one of our friends worked with Ms. Kayla to create a plan for a swing obstacle course — and started a petition to get Dr. Amy to complete it. Signatures were collected. Patience was practiced. The plan was set.
Today, he teamed up with another friend to design and build the full course together. Collaboration ✔️ Creativity ✔️ Problem solving ✔️
Then Dr. Amy took on the challenge — coached through every section and cheered on the entire way. 💪
And because leadership doesn’t stop there… our original mastermind collected signatures again — this time to approve posting it on social media. 😂
Advocacy. Teamwork. Motor planning. Confidence. Joy.
This is what child-led therapy looks like at KidSHINE.

Our Story: KidSHINE LLC- Building Strength, Health, Independence and Nurturing Empowerment
KidSHINE (formerly Kidstrong LLC) is an innovative pediatric OT private practice, founded by Amy Wheadon, MS, OTR/L in 2015. KidSHINE is designed to empower children to discover outer and inner strengths: to build strong bodies, strong minds, strong hearts and allow each child to SHINE. We offer 1:1 OT services for children who need individualized support for functional independence and success both in school and at home. KidSHINE has also pioneered a unique group strengthening "bootcamp" program that is designed and taught by our licensed and NBCOT certified pediatric OTs.
KidSHINE bootcamp classes:
target core strengthening, balance, motor coordination and upper body strength,
foster peer cooperation and critical thinking skills,
facilitate improved functional outcomes by targeting self regulation skills and
most importantly, enhance confidence in all participants
We have been offering our services and bootcamp programs since the fall of 2015, and we moved to our beautiful new facility in May of 2017. KidSHINE offers bootcamp classes for all ages and ability levels, including preschool (Mini Kiddos), elementary aged students (Strong Kids 1- Recreational, Strong Kids 2 Therapeutic, Brain Games for Executive Functioning), and middle school aged students. We also offer a Girls Empowerment Program for Girls in Kindergarten through 8th grade, where we help girls of all ages to love their bodies and to feel strong, proud and confident. KidSHINE also hosts a crossover early intervention group (Tiny Titans), mom vs kids pop up classes, and Strong Moms classes twice weekly. KidSHINE will also host your child's next birthday party in our space- parties are highly structured, sensory friendly, and run by licensed, adult therapists. KidSHINE also offers off site community preschool programs and teacher workshops and trainings.
