Introducing the First Edition of “The People of Person”!
At Person Memorial Hospital, we know that exceptional care starts with exceptional people. That’s why we’re proud to launch “The People of Person,” a new social media feature highlighting the dedicated team members who make a difference every single day.
Our very first spotlight shines on Shirlene Williams from Surgical Services — a true cornerstone of PMH for 30 years!
Shirlene’s home base is CSR in our Surgical Services department, but her impact reaches far beyond. She rounds in all clinical areas to ensure sterile instruments are stocked and ready to use, and she takes the time to teach staff how to properly prepare and transport used instruments back to CSR. Her knowledge, leadership and attention to detail help keep our teams running smoothly and safely.
Shirlene is often called upon to assist as a sitter in our ED and MS units — and many times, she volunteers before anyone even asks. She has a special gift for connecting with patients, helping to calm and ground them during vulnerable moments. She’s also cross-trained on our MS/ICU units and frequently floats or picks up extra shifts as a CNA.
Beyond the hospital walls, Shirlene continues to serve. She’s active in her church ministry and community events across Person County, including helping “stock the pantry” for several local group homes. And when she’s not caring for patients or serving her community, you’ll find her spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren — and her very special dog baby, Miracle!
When asked what she loves about working at Person, Shirlene shared:
“I love my co-workers, and I love what I do.”
Shirlene truly Makes a Difference to all of us — patients, teammates and community members alike.
Join us in celebrating her 30 years of dedication and heart!

Think you might have the flu? Here’s what to do to take care of yourself and protect others:

- Stay home and rest. Avoid work, school or public places. Rest helps your body fight the infection and prevents it from spreading to others.

- Monitor your symptoms. Keep track of severity, duration and any changes in symptoms like fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, headache, runny or stuffy nose.

- Hydrate and manage symptoms. Drink plenty of water or herbal tea. Over-the-counter medications can help with symptoms. Avoid alcohol and smoking.

- Seek medical care if needed. Call your healthcare provider if you experience trouble breathing, chest pain, severe weakness, confusion, persistent high fever or worsening symptoms, especially if you are pregnant, older or have chronic conditions. Early treatment can help reduce complications.

- Protect your community. Cover coughs and sneezes, wash your hands frequently and stay home until you’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.

We "heart" a good reason to wear red!
Person Memorial Hospital showed up red-y to go on Friday for Wear Red Day—and it wasn’t just a fashion statement!
Wear Red Day shines a light on heart disease, the leading cause of death for women, and reminds us all to take heart health seriously. By rocking our reds, we’re helping raise awareness, spark conversations, and show some love for stronger, healthier hearts in our community.
From scarlet scrubs to ruby accessories, our team really nailed the dress code—and our hearts were totally in it!
Because when it comes to heart health, we’re all in… heart and soul!
Thanks to our amazing team for spreading the love!

Looks like the Person Memorial Team really showed up on game day!
We kicked off our annual celebration by gearing up for the Super Bowl and judging a chili cookoff—talk about a winning combo! From tailgate favorites to chili that brought the heat, this party was an absolute touchdown. We even had football on the big screen, because what’s a Super Bowl celebration without it?
Big congrats to Tim Van Hook from our Dietary Team, who ran the chili straight into the end zone and took home first place—and a brand new crock pot!
Great food, great teamwork, and great vibes all around. Now that’s how you run a winning play!
