As the wheel turns......

Water is the element of winter, symbolizing both life and death: the womb from which all life emerges and the abyss to which it returns.

In Chinese medicine, the Water element manifests in the body as the organs and meridians of the Kidney and the Bladder. Both govern the virtues of wisdom, reflection, resources, the unknown and will power.

This is a good time of year to cultivate a balanced Water element by diving deep into our individual, endless void to reacquaint ourselves with who we are and what we need.

In a pot, let nature's bounty blend. With Earthy tones and cinnamon's end. Fresh, pine needles, eucalyptus too. Juniper berries, a fragrant brew.

On the stove, let it gently simmer. A slow dance of scents, a solstice glimmer. Rooms will fill with a magical air. Enchanting aromas beyond compare.

Death and rebirth of the sun this time of year. Let us all commune as one, as we gather near.

Injuries sustained secondary to dry needling performed by PTs is becoming all too common. Pittsburgh Steelers' linebacker T.J. Watt sustained a collapsed lung, aka pneumothorax, after a dry needling treatment by a physical therapist.

Although pneumothorax is a RARE complication, the bottom line is that these serious injuries are performed by providers who are NOT licensed acupuncturists.

The term "dry needling" describes what in practice is acupuncture performed without the education, clinical training and licensure required of acupuncturists.

Master of Acupuncture programs require 3K + clinical hours of supervised training. Dry needling training for PTs ranges anywhere from 50-80+ hours.

I'm so grateful to have local colleagues that are trained in Michelle Gellis' AcuLift Facial Acupuncture protocol. It's been over a year since I've had a proper Facial Acu treatment and let me tell you, Jeff pulled out the stops!

This particular treatment was addressing fine lines/wrinkles on the forehead, crows feet, and around the mouth. Also lifting and toning the inevitable drop of gravity around my mouth, jaw, jowls and neck. Oh, what a cruel witch that gravity is..... 😉

I too am certified in AcuLift Facial Acupuncture and have successfully treated many individuals with similar concerns and presentations. Did you know that although the majority of my patients/clientele are women, Facial Acu is great for men too?

I'm really excited to introduce Kim Loeb, licensed Massage Therapist and certified Rolfer™ to the practice!

Kim has been practicing and teaching Ayurveda and Yoga for 20 plus years and began exploring bodywork and massage in 2009.
Preventative in nature, as well as curative and restorative, her bodywork is intuitive, therapeutic and tailored to her clients' inidividual needs.

What is Rolfing® Structural Integration (SI) therapy?
It's a form of bodywork that reorganizes connective tissue/fascia.
Using manual therapy, mobilization and movement, Rolfing® SI
enhances body awareness, improves posture, reduces inflammation and relieves tension and pain.

If you know anything about Rolfers™, they're like unicorns---rare and few and far between! I met Kim 2 yrs ago, after searching high and low for a certified Rolfer™ in the Metro Detroit area.
