According to a 2022 narrative review published in Nutrients (Forbes et al., Effects of Creatine Supplementation on Brain Function and Health, MDPI; indexed in PubMed/NCBI), creatine and its precursor guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) can increase brain creatine levels and support ATP regeneration in the brain.

The review reports evidence—often preliminary or context-dependent—that creatine supplementation may help support cognitive function and mental fatigue (especially under sleep deprivation), improve memory in some populations, reduce depressive symptoms, and offer neuroprotective effects.

The authors also summarize animal studies and limited human data suggesting potential benefits in concussion and traumatic brain injury recovery, highlighting creatine’s emerging role in supporting both muscle and brain health.

Stomach acid is essential for digestion because it helps break down food, especially proteins, and kills harmful bacteria such as *Helicobacter pylori* that can enter the body through food and water. It also plays an important role in absorbing key nutrients like vitamin B12, iron, and calcium.

However, stomach acid balance can be disrupted by factors such as stress, unhealthy diet, overeating, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, and frequent use of medications like antacids or painkillers. When stomach acid levels become too high or too low, it may lead to problems like acid reflux, indigestion, bloating, or infections, highlighting the importance of maintaining proper stomach acid levels for good digestive health.

People who consumed 42 grams of walnuts per day (about a palm-full) for two separate 3-week periods experienced measurable changes in their gut microbiome. Specifically, walnut intake increased the relative abundance of butyrate-producing bacteria such as Faecalibacterium and Roseburia. Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid that supports colon cell health, strengthens the gut barrier, and has anti-inflammatory effects, which are generally considered beneficial for gastrointestinal health.

In the same trial, walnut consumption reduced levels of secondary bile acids, including deoxycholic acid (↓ ~25%) and lithocholic acid (↓ ~45%), both of which are regarded as pro-inflammatory and have been associated with increased colon cancer risk in prior research. Additionally, participants had a ~7% reduction in LDL cholesterol, suggesting that walnuts may improve both gut-related metabolic processes and cardiovascular risk markers, potentially through interactions between diet, gut microbes, and lipid metabolism.
