October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

Today we remember all of the babies.

We remember the babies who were born sleeping.

We remember the babies who went home, but could not stay.

We remember the babies who were held, but could not go home.

We remember the babies who were carried, but never held.

No matter what gestation your baby existed, your baby matters.

We see you, and we are remembering your baby with you today and every day.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP

If you notice any of these warning signs in someone you know, it's important to act. These are practical steps you can take:

*Ask Directly: Don't be afraid to ask someone if they are thinking about su***de. Studies show that asking about suicidal thoughts does not increase the risk but can be a crucial step in providing help.
*Listen and Offer Support: Sometimes, the most important thing you can do is listen. Allow the person to talk about their feelings without judgement. Offer reassurance and express your concern.
*Encourage Them to Seek Professional Help: Urge them to speak with a mental health professional or a trusted healthcare provider. Here at Russell Family Medical, we are here to help, offering confidential and compassionate care.
*Stay Connected: Follow up with the person after your initial conversation. Staying in touch can make a huge difference in helping them feel supported and less alone.
*Help Keep Them Safe: If possible, remove any items that the person could use to harm themselves, such as fi****ms or medications.

What is newborn screening?
Newborn screening is a state public health service that reaches each of the nearly 4 million babies born in the United States each year. It ensures that all babies are screened for certain serious conditions at birth, and for those babies with the conditions, it allows doctors to start treatment before some of the harmful effects happen.
