Storm Preparedness Check In,

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock,
"The evening of 1/23/26 snow showers and sleet are expected, with sleet possibly heavy at times. Overnight lows near 10°, wind chill values as low as -1°, and east-northeast winds of 10–15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph are forecast. Snow and sleet accumulations of 2–4 inches are possible, with a 100% chance of precipitation."

With a significant snow and ice storm expected in our area this weekend, Pope County EMS wants to encourage residents to take extra time now to prepare if you or a loved one relies on medications or medical equipment.

During severe winter weather, road conditions can become hazardous and emergency responses may take longer than usual. Proper preparation can help prevent medical emergencies and reduce the need for emergency services during the storm.

Medication Preparation:
-Refill prescriptions early if possible, especially medications for heart conditions, diabetes, breathing problems, or seizures
-Keep medications stored properly and protected from freezing temperatures
-Maintain an up to date list of medications, dosages, allergies, and medical conditions
-Keep this list easily accessible in case EMS is needed

Medical Equipment & Power Concerns:
-If you use medical equipment such as oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP machines, ventilators, feeding pumps, or mobility devices, ensure you have extra supplies available
-Fully charge backup batteries and power sources ahead of the storm
-Have a plan in place if power is lost, including who to contact for assistance
-If you depend on electrically powered medical equipment, consider checking with your utility provider about medical priority programs

General Safety Reminders:
-Keep emergency contact numbers written down in case cell phones lose power or service
-Avoid unnecessary travel during the storm to reduce injury risk

Warming Station Information:
For those in need of a warm place during the storm, the following warming stations are available:

Winter Driving Safety Reminder from Pope County EMS

As winter weather approaches and the potential for snow and icy conditions increases, we want to share a quick reminder to help everyone stay safe on the roads. Taking a moment to prepare and refresh these safety tips before conditions worsen can make a big difference for both the public and emergency personnel.

If you encounter an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens activated while traveling in snow or ice:

• Do your best to safely move over and yield the right of way when conditions allow.
• If you cannot safely move over, please slow down and come to a controlled, safe stop if possible.
• Emergency vehicle operators are trained to adjust and will do their best to safely maneuver around you when needed.

There is no expectation to make sudden or unsafe movements. Slow is safe, and your safety matters just as much as ours.

As conditions may change, we also encourage everyone to check on those who may be more vulnerable, such as older adults, neighbors with limited mobility, or anyone who may be isolated or unable to get out safely. A quick call or check-in can make a meaningful difference.

We encourage everyone to stay tuned to local news and weather stations for changing conditions and forecasts, and to follow our social media pages for ongoing education, safety reminders, and updates as conditions evolve.

Most importantly, if you need us, we are here. We are always ready to respond and care for our community, no matter the conditions.

Thank you for helping us keep Pope County safe!

Winter Weather Advisory

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock,
"Pope County, AR, is under a Winter Storm Watch from Friday evening (Jan 23rd) through Sunday morning (Jan 25th)."

Pope County EMS would like to remind everyone that a Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect. Changing weather conditions can lead to rapidly deteriorating road conditions, including snow-covered, icy, or slick roads.

Please take time now to prepare:
Check the weather forecast frequently
Allow extra time for travel or avoid unnecessary travel if possible
Slow down and increase following distance
Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle (blanket, flashlight, charger, water, snacks)
Make sure your vehicle is winter ready (tires, fuel, windshield fluid)
Dress warmly and plan ahead!

Important Notice:
If road conditions become hazardous, emergency response times may be delayed due to winter weather and unsafe road conditions. Our crews will continue to respond as safely and quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding!

Please stay alert, watch for changing road and weather conditions, and use extra caution if you must travel.

Your safety is our priority. Stay warm, stay prepared, and stay safe!

If you have ever wondered who helps keep everything running behind the scenes at Pope County EMS, this week we are highlighting one of the people who does just that.

Becky Hoppert has been with PCEMS for 8 years, two part-time and six full-time, and works mainly in medical billing and coding, along with a long list of other tasks that keep our office running smoothly.

While her background is in music, teaching, and retail, she decided to take a chance on this role and quickly found out it was exactly where she was meant to be.

Her favorite part about working at PCEMS is the family she has gained. The people here do not just care about their jobs; they care about each other.

One thing many people do not realize about her job is that she takes the information from 911 calls and turns it into codes that tell insurance what was done and why, helping ensure claims are paid correctly. It is a behind-the-scenes role that plays a big part in keeping EMS going. Outside of work, life revolves around her beautiful daughter and family, but when she has free time, she enjoys gardening, reading, and even making her own nail polish.

Working at PCEMS has deepened her compassion for people. Even though she may not always see patients face-to-face, she hears their stories and sometimes helps them through the aftermath of what may have been one of the hardest days of their lives.

We are thankful for everything she brings to Pope County EMS, and that is why she is this week's employee Spotlight!

Proof that hometown care is something special!

A great story from Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

At Saint Mary’s, we believe personal connection is at the heart of care, and sometimes, it leads to unforgettable moments. 💙

During a recent visit to our Emergency Department, staff took time to connect with Jock Davis, a 101-year-old World War II veteran and one of four brothers who all served in the military. Through conversation and genuine connection, they learned about his remarkable life and even received a copy of a book he wrote about his family’s service.

Moments like these remind us that when patients feel seen and heard, care goes beyond medicine. Read more here: https://www.saintmarysregional.com/news/2026/01/08/where-personal-connection-begins--a-story-from-the-saint-mary-s-emergency-department
