It was Steve's knowledge and cooperative spirit that helped bond the relationship of all EMS providers in our area. I am personally thankful for his leadership and his friendship. May God bless and comfort all who knew him.

This week we introduce our new Medical Director, Dr. Evans, and take a closer look at the experience, leadership, and passion for EMS he brings to Pope County.

His passion for EMS began early in his career, working full-time in the field for several years before attending college and medical school. During that time, he had the opportunity to learn from Arkansas EMS pioneer Dr. Marvin Leibovich. From the start, his goal was to practice emergency medicine so he could continue working in EMS and make a positive impact on EMS across Arkansas.

Since joining Pope County EMS, he has been impressed by the people and the culture within the service. He describes PCEMS as having a strong sense of pride, a positive environment, and a shared commitment among crews to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to the community.

From his perspective, strong EMS systems are built on a close connection to the communities they serve, supported by engaged leadership that empowers field providers and helps agencies continue to grow.

For those building a career in EMS, his advice is simple: never stop learning. EMS continues to evolve, and staying current with evidence-based practices is essential. At the same time, he reminds providers to take care of themselves and their families while caring for others.

Outside of medicine, he’s an avid fan of live music and attends concerts whenever he can, often recording performances and later sharing them on community radio stations in Arkansas. When he’s not traveling for music, he also enjoys spending time working in his vegetable garden.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Evans, whose expertise, leadership, and commitment to advancing EMS care benefit both our crews and the community we serve.

Pope County EMS is deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving Pafford Emergency Medical Services in Mississippi.

Our hearts are heavy as we learn of the head on collision involving one of their ambulances while transporting a patient. We mourn the loss of the patient, and we are keeping the critically injured crew members, their families, coworkers, and all those affected in our thoughts and prayers.

Events like this impact more than just one agency or one community. They remind us how closely connected we all are and how much first responders risk every day to care for others. Behind every ambulance are families, friends, and a community that supports them.

Across state lines, the EMS community stands together in times of tragedy, and we stand in solidarity with Pafford EMS and the Mississippi communities affected by this loss.

We ask our community to join us in lifting up everyone involved, to keep first responders in your thoughts, and to continue showing the kindness and support that make our communities strong.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Pafford EMS and all those affected by this tragedy.
