Part of my work is to help people change their relationship with pain. This is my friend Barbara who showed me it was possible, she passed away in the middle of the pandemic and she still teaches me! She was one of the first people to trust me to work on her when I was a massage therapy student. Her unbridled enthusiasm was so contagious. Her praise and encouragment helped me to believe in this work. I post her picture here because she’s been on my mind since working on the Chronic Pain Workshop. Her pain was constant and still she always took on any challenge with gusto. Any her tiny self would fight giants if they threatened those she loved. This photo captures her delight and awe that she always embraced. Thank you Barbara!

Long rant about Human Trafficking:

I am happy to know action has been taken on human trafficking across the state including Russellville. I had concerns which I shared with a representative of the state massage therapy board. I am saddened that the women were being trafficked and imagine they were so controlled that they had no means to break free. It’s shocking that this city had enough people to support at least three businesses. I am sure some people went because they could get a legitimate massage quickly and never considered the sexual acts that were going on there. But there were those who did know. They were engaging in criminal activity and providing incentives for the “business” to lure women into slavery and prostitution. And for those people who have a loving partner at home, you were also stealing their trust and giving the intimacy that you committed to them and throwing it away for quick satisfaction while committing a crime at the same time.

Reporters were more interested, as shown by their questions at yesterday’s news conference, in knowing if the women who were trafficked knew they were coming to the US to be pr******tes than about how many “Johns” were arrested. Let’s be clear it takes a “John” to make a pr******te. Also if the women knew, then imagine how awful their life was to willingly sell their bodies.

Finally professional massage therapists are here to help you body heal and invested their time and money to do this work. Providing sexual pleasure is the last thing on their mind. It is quite insulting and actually illegal to ask for a “happy ending”. Please respect us as healers, the jokes are not funny.
