We want to take a moment to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. A lot of families are hurting this season, a lot of people are suffering loss, and a lot are suffering with sickness. This might be your first Thanksgiving without a loved one or with a sickness, you know this might be the last. You are not alone.

We hope you get together with your family and have a Happy Thanksgiving. Remember the ones that are gone too soon and celebrate the happy memories. Your loved one would want you to try to continue to honor their memory.

We will be closed here at Spry Memorial Chapel on Thanksgiving Day to give our employees time with our families too. We love you and appreciate you all for allowing us to serve your families.

Mildred Jeanette Hood, age 100, of Russellville, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Russellville Hospital.

Mildred was born on May 20, 1925, to Sidney & Fannie Stephens in Marion County. She married the love of her life, Cecil Edgar Hood, on May 02, 1943. Together they served in the ministry, and she served as a minister’s wife. She was a good Christian wife, mother, and was a faithful member of Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church. She was always a hard-working woman, helping Cecil with the farm, gardening, canning the goods, being a seamstress, and able to fix just about anything. She was an excellent cook, and her fried pies were known all around. She loved her family dearly and first and foremost she loved her God. The family will cherish the precious memories that she leaves behind.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Vernon Hood (Aliene), Janice Miller, Elaine Phifer (Jay), Terry Hood (Jennifer); grandchildren, Tina Copeland (Marvin), Tracey Cook (Barry), Shannon Phifer (Christie), Darron Hood (Andrea), Stephanie Phifer, Sommer Jackson (Corey), TJ Hood (Jayme); a host of great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Hood; parents, Sidney & Fannie (Wooten) Stephens; siblings, Carl Stephens, JB Stephens, Geraldine Wilson, Shirley Ann Scott; grandson, Trent Allen Phifer; and son-in-law, Orbie Miller.

The visitation will be 12:00 noon- 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro Kyle Copeland and Bro. Orbie Pearce officiating the service. The burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Darron Hood, Shannon Phifer, Marvin Copeland, Barry Cook, Todd DeMartin, and JD Phifer. The honorary pallbearers will be Chase Phifer, Aiden Phifer, Eli Hood, and TJ Hood.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Russellville Hospital and Hospice of North Alabama for your love and care. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Keith Morrow for your care over the years.

Patricia Dean Lane, age 81, of Russellville, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at her residence.

Mrs. Lane loved her family selflessly no matter what and was the most giving person we have ever known. Her favorite people are her grandchildren. She loved feeding squirrels, birds, and reading her Bible with her magnifying glass so much the pages are worn and torn.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Tina Henderson (Ray), Donna Lane, Jennifer Murray, Lisa Lane, Tina Lane; grandchildren, Grace Lane, Claire Lane, Brianna Gray (Blake), Hanna McNeal, Houston McNeal, Peyton Henderson, MaKensy Hester (Chris), Abby Looney, Ashton Lane; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Donald Lane; son, Donald Lane, Jr., parents, Lee & Flora Abigale (Whitlock) Vincent; and all of her siblings.

Ruby Lee Streetman Britton, age 92, of Belgreen passed away on November 23, 2025.

The visitation will be Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville, Alabama. The funeral will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel conducted by Rev Scott Lindsey, with the service concluding there. Burial will be at Belgreen Cemetery following the service.

Ruby was born on April 14,1933 in Belgreen, Alabama. She lived the majority of her life in Belgreen and was a lifelong member of Belgreen United Methodist Church. She graduated from Belgreen High School in 1951. Ruby was a stay-at-home mom and active volunteer at Belgreen High School for many years, serving as PTA President, cheerleader sponsor, and volunteering in many roles with the school. She was also very active in her church, working with both youth and the elderly. Ruby completed a course in genealogy at Florence State University-UNA and was active in the local United Daughters of Confederacy for many years. She loved traveling to locations to increase her knowledge of genealogy and the history of this area and its people. Most of all she loved time with her family.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Ada Louellen Oliver Streetman and Henry Douglas Streetman; her husband of 46 years Athel D. Britton; siblings, Mavianea Baker, Tom Streetman, MD Streetman, Maxine West, Buster Streetman, Doug Streetman, and Jack Streetman.

She is survived by her son Eddie Britton (Kathy), her daughter, Lisa Miller (Ronnie); grandchildren, Alison Gallman (Pete), David Britton (Tracì), Lori McDonnell (Samuel), Josh Miller (Ashley); 8 great grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Watts, Dwight Streetman (Vangie) and numerous nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Josh Miller, David Britton, Samuel McDonnell, Pete Gallman, Noah Gallman, and Bryant Britton.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Decker’s office, and the very loving staff who cared for her at Arabella, and Greta and Brittany with the Hospice of North Alabama.

Judith “Judi” Ann Ayers, age 80, of Russellville, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Burns Nursing Home.

Judi was always a hard worker, a great cook, and fun loving. She loved making memories at the holidays with her family and always made it feel like a party. She loved painting and working with arts and crafts. She was a strong woman who was cancer survivor, after having fought lung cancer. Judi was a caregiver to several of her family members.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Rick Watson, Randy Watson (Annette); step-children, Tonya McDonald, Greg Ayers, Scotty Ayers; grandchildren, Lily Watson, Josh Watson (Luna), Johnathon Watson, Shawn Watson (Kayla), Jordan Petree (Matt Davis), Leslie Hutchins, Brittany O’Malley (Cody); 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Mike Robison (Wanda); and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaither Len Ayers; parents, Bernie & Gladys Mae (Hawkins) Robison, stepdaughter, Felicia Hutchins; siblings, Thomas Robison, Jerry Bee Robison, and Betty Jo Tyra.

The visitation will be 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Tommy Smith officiating the service. The burial will be at Duncan Creek Cemetery.

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, our son, James Brent “J.B.” Hooper, II; passed away at his residence. He was born on January 30, 2004, to James Brent Hooper I & Stella Carol Hooper and lived all his 21 years in Russellville. He was the light of our lives.

JB graduated from Russellville High School in 2022. He had a heart bigger than Texas and would give his shirt off of his back to anyone in need. His passion was old cars, fixing them up with Marty, going antique shopping with his mom, and he was his dad’s heartbeat. He loved old time music and had to have his Dr. Pepper’s.

From the day he was born, he brought an abundance of joy to all of our lives every day and to everyone who was blessed to know him. He was kind and compassionate to all, young and old alike. He was always fun to be around and could always put a smile on your face. James Brent loved computers and was a wizard on them. He loved his job as a IT specialist at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his parents, James Brent Hooper I and Stella Carol Hooper; Nana Geraldine Hooper; Grandmother Verna Fenn; aunt, Sandra Sandusky; uncle & aunt, Bill & Susan Hooper; special brother, Marty Fisher; and a gigantic host of other family and friends.

He is preceded death by his grandpas, Billy G. Hooper and Glen Spurgeon; aunts, Lesa Hooper and Alice Spurgeon; uncles, Ricky Sandusky and Harold Glen Spurgeon.

Gary Monroe Cravens, age 77, of Tuscumbia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, November 09, 2025.

He was born on November 24, 1947, in Monteray, Tennessee to Wayne & Illa Dean Cravens. Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Lowes and was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was an all-around jokester and loved to tell good jokes and make people laugh. He was also a good friend to many.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Peggy Mathhues Cravens; children, Catrina Mathhues (Jay), Jesse Cravens (Victoria), Larry Cravens, Cheryl Cabrera, David Cravens; seven grandchildren; sister, Gayle Cravens; several nieces & nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded death by his parents, Illa Dean & Wayne Cravens and two brothers.

The visitation for Gary will be 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The service will follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel with Bro. Greg Beasley and Bro. Retired Sergeant Harold Loyd “PeeWee” Washington, age 69, of Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, November 05, 2025, at North Alabama Medical Center.

PeeWee was born July 07, 1956, in Franklin County to Loyd & Johnnie Sue Washington. PeeWee worked in the Hackleburg Police Department until he became a member of the Russellville Police Department where he worked thirty plus years until his retirement. Sergeant Washington served the City of Russellville with honor, integrity, and dedication. He was known and widely respected for his leadership, compassion, and commitment to protecting this community. His service will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his children; Chad Washington, Holly Washington; siblings, Tammy Berlin, Sammie Washington (Penny); and a host of nieces & nephews.

He is preceded death by his parents, Loyd & Johnnie Sue (Matthews) Washington.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined by the family.

Dellion Junior Weeks age 84, of Phil Campbell, AL finished life's race on November 2, 2025.

He was born February 9, 1941, to William and Elsie Weeks. He graduated from Phil Campbell High School in 1959. He was a master mechanic most of his life and thoroughly enjoyed it. He always had a smile on his face and loved making everyone laugh. He loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with family.

He is survived by his children; Terry (Irene)Weeks, Tina (Steven) Cagle, Tammy Weeks, Josh (Sara) Weeks; Grandchildren Erica Swinney, Lisa (Woojin) Berkner, Dylan (Amber) Garrard, Jayden Weeks; great-grandchildren Jase Swinney and Annalouise Waldrop; siblings, Janice (Marty) Vandiver, Charles (Cherri) Weeks, Ray Pace, Travis Duncan; and a host of extended family.

He is preceded death by his wife Barbara Mims Weeks, parents William and Elsie Weeks, infant son William Ray Weeks, siblings Shirley Pace, Phillis Duncan, and Evelyn Duncan.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at Spry Memorial Chapel on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Bro. Rickey Phifer will speak at the service.
