Stepping up to be a caregiver isn’t about titles or technicalities. It doesn’t matter if it’s your mom, your dad, your spouse… or your mother-in-law. What matters is showing up.

It’s choosing love over convenience. Patience over frustration. Presence over comfort.

I can’t imagine the fear someone feels when they’re diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia—the uncertainty, the loss of independence, the quiet questions they may never say out loud. We can’t control the diagnosis. We can’t control the outcome. But we can control the effort we put in.

We can control how we treat them.
We can control how often we show up.
We can control whether they feel forgotten… or deeply loved.

Being there tells them they still matter. That they are still needed. That they are not alone—even on the hardest days.

Caregiving isn’t easy, but love never was. And if you’re doing it, in any capacity, for anyone—you’re doing something truly selfless. 💙
