March is Endometriosis Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness about a condition that affects 1 in 10 women of reproductive age.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, which can lead to chronic pelvic pain, painful periods, infertility, and other symptoms. Unfortunately, many women live with symptoms for years before receiving a diagnosis.

If you are experiencing persistent pelvic pain, severe menstrual cramps, or other concerning symptoms, it’s important to talk with your provider. Early evaluation and treatment can make a difference.

Today, Northern Louisiana Medical Center was proud to participate in “Get Into the Guts of Healthcare” event at Louisiana Delta Community College in Winnsboro in partnership with ULM and Louisiana Tech — an exciting hands-on career exploration day for middle and high school students interested in healthcare.

Brittany Sheets, Director of Respiratory Therapy at NLMC, represented our team with an interactive booth focused on respiratory therapy. Students had the opportunity to learn about lung health, respiratory care equipment, and what it’s like to work in this vital healthcare field.

Events like this help inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals and give students a closer look at the many rewarding career paths in medicine.

Today is HPV Awareness Day, a reminder of the importance of protecting women’s health through education, prevention, and early detection.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common viruses and is responsible for nearly all cases of cervical cancer, as well as several other cancers affecting both women and men. The good news is that HPV-related cancers are largely preventable through vaccination and routine screening.

Vaccination against HPV and regular cervical cancer screenings, including Pap tests and HPV testing, can help detect changes early—when they are most treatable.

Talk with your healthcare provider about HPV vaccination and recommended screening guidelines to help protect your long-term health.
