This Thanksgiving, we are grateful to be part of local communities that foster support and connection. The relationships we build within our neighborhoods create a sense of belonging and shared purpose. As we gather with loved ones, we recognize the strength and warmth that come from being connected to those around us. Wishing everyone a safe and healthy holiday!

If you’re age 70 and a half years old, or older, and have a traditional IRA or 401(k), you need to take a required minimum distribution (RMD) each year. But did you know you can use it to support a cause close to your heart and reduce your taxable income?

By making a qualified charitable distribution directly from your IRA to our agency, you can:

-Satisfy your RMD.
-Avoid additional income tax.
-Provide compassionate home health and hospice care to your neighbors in need.

Your gift can help deliver wound care to a rural patient, offer emotional support to a grieving family or provide comfort to someone in their final days.

This is more than smart financial planning. It's a win-win: smart giving that supports care with dignity.

To get started, talk to your financial advisor or contact us directly, 802-770-1543.

We know our clinicians and staff are real-life superheroes - a special shout-out to our incredible employees Katha, Amy, and Hannah, who laced up their sneakers and ran to support Teens4Change at the United Counseling Services Superhero 5K & Kids’ Dash in Bennington on November 8th.

💬 Meet Elizabeth (Liz) Pelletier — Clinical Manager
Liz Pelletier has spent nearly her entire nursing career in home health, and it’s easy to see why. “I became a nurse because I have a passion for helping people and wanted to make a positive impact,” she says. “Even if it’s just helping someone who’s having a rough day feel a little bit better, that’s what matters.” No wonder she left her research and development lab role, it was too isolating for this caring social butterfly!

Home health, she explains, allows her to make that impact in a unique way. “Visiting patients in their homes gives me a front-row seat to their lives... their challenges, their strengths, and the things that make them who they are. It lets me build care plans that are personal, creative, and meaningful.” That's just her inner spirit animal coming out, the wolf, which is known for courage, loyalty, strong family ties and acts as a revered "medicine being".

When she’s off the clock, Liz loves relaxing with a good show, surrounded by her pup and cats. Right now, she’s hooked on The Summer I Turned Pretty. “It’s captivating and beautifully written,” she says. “It explores love, growth, and the messy, wonderful transition from teen to adulthood.”

Liz is also a bit of an adventurer, she’s even swam with sharks! If she suddenly stops showing up to work one day, she's gone backpacking in Europe.

And if she weren’t in nursing, she’d be cooking. “I show love through acts of service,” she says. “Feeding people and making sure everyone leaves with a full belly and a happy heart, that’s my joy.” When she's not feeding people, you can find her eating her favorite Clam Chowder - a true New Englander! She said she'd love to get dinner with Emily Dickenson because, "The passion and brilliance of old poets is breathtaking."

If she could instantly become an expert at something, it would be foraging. Maybe she needs to chat with Bennington Clinical Manager, Amanda Robson, who said she enjoys foraging in her free time!

If she could only use three emojis forever, she’d pick 🕵️‍♂️ Sherlock Holmes, 💕 Double Heart, and 🤦‍♀️ Head Slap.

Stay tuned for the next leader we highlight!

Our agency recently celebrated our annual VNA Week, an opportunity to honor our remarkable staff and the exceptional care they provide every day. The week concluded with our Employee Recognition Dinner, where we celebrated team members whose dedication, compassion, and excellence make a lasting impact on our patients and their families.

During the event, we proudly recognized our HEALTH Matters award recipients. These awards reflect the core values that guide our mission: Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Leadership, Teamwork, and Helpfulness. This year’s winners were:

Honesty: Jessica Desautels
Excellence: LiMei Janik
Accountability: Carol Rainville
Leadership: Andrew Nardell
Teamwork: Bonnie Green
Helpfulness: Jeff Bunn

We were also honored to name Melissa Falk, Rutland-based Occupational Therapist, as our Employee of the Year. Melissa has dedicated 10 years to VNAHSR and is described by peers as an outstanding communicator who leads with compassion, professionalism, and integrity. One colleague shared, “Melissa embodies what it means to be an Occupational Therapist, as she has changed and enhanced the lives of so many patients.”

This year, we recognized two Rookie of the Year recipients—one clinical and one non-clinical—for their early and exceptional impact. The winners were Kelly Bentley (clinical) and Matthew Cartier (non-clinical).

The prestigious Transformational Leader Award, given to a leader who inspires excellence through creativity, vision, and motivation, was awarded to Elizabeth Pelletier, Home Care Clinical Manager.

Jessica Fredette, Chief Human Resources & Development Officer, shared her gratitude for the team, noting that the HEALTH Matters awards represent the values that shape every interaction with patients, families, and fellow staff. She emphasized that these honors celebrate not just individuals but the collective strength of the VNAHSR team and their impact on the community.

The Employee Recognition Dinner and HEALTH Matters awards highlight the extraordinary work of our staff and our shared commitment to exceptional patient care. We look forward to the continued success and meaningful contributions of all our team members in the years ahead.
