Rest in peace Laura.

The dispatching world lost a legend on April 21, 2026, when we lost Laura Moulton.

Laura spent more than 35 years of her life dispatching for the Vermont State Police and beyond, serving dozens of fire departments, rescue squads, game wardens, constables, DMV enforcement, liquor control, and more.
If you heard Laura’s voice on the radio, you knew the call you were responding to was going to be okay. Laura took pride in making sure all of her responders went home at the end of their shift. This often meant thinking outside the box, even if it didn’t make people happy.

If you ever worked with Laura, you realized it wasn’t always fun. She demanded perfection when it came to officer safety. This was a lesson that took time for dispatchers working with her to learn Once enlightenment was achieved, you became more than just a coworker to her, she became like family member, a mom, attended weddings and baby showers, and being there for her coworkers on their absolute worst days. She was instrumental in breaking the mental health stigma in the dispatch world and was a founding member of the peer support team in Vermont.

Laura loved the Patriots and Tom Brady to almost obnoxious levels. Like Brady, Laura was hands down the best at her craft. She worked in the “dark ages” of dispatch, when cards were punched and telephones were rotary, before E911. She worked in a single barracks, regional barracks, and eventually dispatched for half the state. Her knowledge of emergency services and resources is irreplaceable. Technology, responsibilities, and roles changed rapidly during those years; however, her commitment to taking care of her coworkers and responders never did. The State of Vermont has lost perhaps its foremost expert in dispatchers.

Laura’s legacy will live on. She trained dozens of dispatchers to her exceptional standard. If you listen carefully to dispatchers around Vermont and slightly across its borders, you can still hear her in their voices, especially on the big calls.
