Honoring One of Our Own: A Journey of Recognition and Reflection
We are incredibly proud to recognize one of our very own residents, Michael “Mike” Goulet, who recently experienced a truly unforgettable and meaningful journey through Honor Flight Maine.
Honor Flight is a remarkable program dedicated to honoring our nation’s veterans by bringing them to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials created in recognition of their service and sacrifice. Mike was among 64 veterans selected for this special trip, each accompanied by a family es**rt. By his side was his daughter, Michelle Goulet, a proud U.S. Air Force veteran who served for 10 years as a medic, with assignments in Germany, Hawaii, and across the United States.
Mike, a graduate of Thornton Academy (Class of 1970), joined the United States Marine Corps shortly after graduation, serving as a Combat Engineer from 1970 to 1972 during the Vietnam era. Like many veterans of that time, he returned home without the recognition and appreciation he deserved.
During the Honor Flight, veterans visited several memorial sites, including the powerful and moving Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Mike shared that during the ceremony, “you could hear a pin drop.” Every movement by the guards was precise and intentional, a powerful tribute to those who served. Veterans who were able stood in honor, while others paid their respects from their wheelchairs, sharing a deeply moving moment of reflection and respect.
For Mike and many others, this experience brought a long overdue sense of closure, connection, and recognition. He shared that for years, veterans were not celebrated for their service, but this journey created a space where they could come together, reflect, and finally feel truly honored.
We are deeply grateful for Mike’s service and proud to have him as part of the Wardwell family ❤️
Please join us in thanking Mike, his daughter Michelle, and all veterans for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our country.
