In this segment, I will build on the 7 Phases of the 1 Scond Model with a focus on mitigation. The one second model exists between the Step 2 - State Awareness and Adjustment and Step 4 - Response.

Observe others' physiology. See triggers before they happen. Redirect, contextualize, or change the topic to avoid triggering. Rational conversations are impossible when they feel unsafe. Stop before escalation.

Stop anxiety spirals. Take back agency to lead yourself and others. Move from fight or flight to focused engagement. Deep breathing clears negative self-talk. I cancel that, I'm smart.

Step 2 - Physiology Signals and Levers

This is the Second Part of Step 2. Step 2 is the best opportunity to own your day because it is focused on prevention.

The next opportunity is conditioning your desired reaction and response at the sub-conscious level which is not as reliable as prevention.

This is the early indicator step when you begin to feel a threat may be coming. For leaders, it is also the step that you have an opportunity to alter how an employee or associate is likely to respond.

Heart rate variability (HRV) indicates what's going on in the system. High HRV means a healthy system. Comparing HRV to others is irrelevant; track individual changes.
