Hi! I’m Erica Altman, founder of Altman Adult Care (AAC).
A little about me: I’ve been involved in geriatrics for over 15 years. I’m an old soul, which explains why I’ve always felt such a connection and compassion with seniors. Seniors have a plethora of knowledge and wisdom - i believe it’s my calling to advocate for them by making them feel listened to, acknowledged and heard.
I graduated from SJSU with a degree in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in Gerontology. For the first four years of my career, I worked in finance. I wasn’t passionate about it, but it provided me with job security and promotions.
Much like others, when the pandemic hit I started contemplating my future and where my career was headed. Do I REALLY want to pursue a career path in accounting and finance for the rest of my career? The thought made me yearning for so much more.
So what did I do? I quit corporate America, traded in work clothes for scrubs, and started my own business from the ground up.
I began in-home caregiving for the elderly and disabled. However, I realized there’s so much more to senior care than just caregiving itself and I quickly noticed a handful of concerns that needed to be addressed with a solution in mind.
Seeing these patterns, I decided I want to approach geriatrics in a more holistic way that includes the support of family, friends and resources. Which has brought me to here: studying for my Geriatric Care Management certification.
I’m not going to lie, it’s terrifying leaving behind the comfort and safety of a full time, 9-5 job with benefits. But on the flip side, I’ve never felt this much more joy or purpose. I go to bed at night knowing I’m making a difference amongst this population, and that’s the only fuel i need to feed my passion.
Thank you for supporting me just by being here! I’m so excited for what this next chapter will bring, and I can’t wait to share this journey with other like-minded members of the industry. 😊
