In the summer of 1993, Sam & Faye Kassab were living in Dryden, a small town north of Detroit, Michigan. One evening Sam was taking his children to a church program. Danny (then age 7) was so excited that he jumped out of the car first and proceeded to cross a country road when he saw a car coming toward him. He ran across the road to avoid being struck while the driver, trying to avoid hitting Danny, inevitably struck him. The devastating impact left the seven-year-old severely injured. Within minutes three registered nurses, who happened to be at the church program, rushed to the scene. One of the nurses proceeded to perform CPR on Danny, and her effort was attributed to saving young Danny's life. Instantly, the family changed forever. Their once active son now became a ventilator-dependent quadriplegic requiring 24-hour skilled nursing care.
