No one said giving birth was easy, it isn’t supposed to be, that’s why it is called labor. But women’s bodies were made for this. It is unique to us. We are laboring love. Birth can be beautiful with the right support and birth plan. Mamas let’s talk, how can I support you?

Sometimes it is just holding space, but other times it is reminding her how amazing she is doing, to breath in deep through your nose and out slow through the mouth, that she is safe, she is a rock star, to help find the calm between contractions.
Tonight this momma was amazing and we found such a good tune with her. I work with another doula tonight, she was a great mentor! Together with the nurses and this amazing momma leading the way, we all made a great team. She was amazed by what her body could do and was so open to us explaining and helping to educate her or the birthing process and each step that was bringing her closer to her baby. mamas how can I support you? At the last birth I attended... when i called into the hospital to see if they had any labors? They had 2 active labors! When I got there the nurses asked each other who would benefit more.. the mom that was already pushing or the mom that was laboring about 6cm. This question really struck me and has sat with me.

Why?
Every mom, it doesn’t matter what stage of labor, can and WILL benefit from having a doula!
Honestly, at first I was bummed that they asked me to be with the mom that was already pushing, I wouldn’t be able to try some of my techniques for helping mom progress and comfort. But through this labor I held space for this mom. I encouraged her. I, a DOULA, was what she needed. A comforting touch, gentle reminders to breath, encouraging words, physical support.

EVERY MOM, EVERY STAGE BENEFITS FROM A DOULA.

How can I support you?

Meeting pre labor gives us a chance to get to know each other and for me to know your plan. What you need, what your goals are, what you are and aren’t comfortable with.

When volunteering I arrived, She was already pushing when I started my shift. She was strong, it wasn’t her first rodeo, she knew what she was doing. This time she just needed someone to hold space, to support her energy, to encourage her. She was very internalize, eyes closed and intermittent deep moans. She is so was strong ,and trusted and worked with her body. It was beautiful.

Sometimes all we need is someone to hold that silent space. Just have support with no word.

It is amazing what are bodies are made to do. That they know exactly how to birth a baby. We have to learn to follow our instincts. Believing in our body. Let our body and baby work together. That these surges won’t last and that each one brings you closer to your baby’s birth.

Birth and labor should not be feared. Your body was made for this. Giving birth should be your greatest achievement not your greatest fear. Your body knows how to birth a baby.

Remember your body is capable, your body is strong.

A birth plan is a way for you to communicate your wishes to those supporting you and caring for you during your labor and after the birth of your baby. Every birth is a unique experience.
