The symptoms are the same but "quicker sicker" seems to be the name of the game for the Delta Variant. See what else our UC Davis Health experts are saying about the very contagious Delta Variant.

UC Davis Health experts are warning a Sacramento-area COVID-19 surge is likely in the coming weeks. Infections are rising, due largely to the highly transmissible Delta variant and low vaccination rates, which are around 50% in the region.

It's been nearly 18 months since the COVID pandemic changed everything & we continue to learn more about it. Internal Med's Angela Haczku was the senior author on a study that determined the likelihood of SARS-CoV-2 on hospital surfaces being infectious. In addition to Dr. Haczku's leadership, several members of our IM and UC Davis Health family took part in this study and we're thankful for their hard work.

A new study confirms the low likelihood that coronavirus contamination on hospital surfaces is infectious. The study is the original report on recovering near-complete SARS-CoV-2 genome sequences directly from surface swabs.

We're very proud of one of our residents, Jorge Salazar. Jorge recently received the Postgraduate Trainee Award for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in part for his leadership role as chair of the Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement Committee within the department of internal medicine (DICE).
He also helps organize forums for trainees to safely discuss EDI and social justice issues. We can't say thanks to Jorge enough for his important contributions to UC Davis Health!

Jorge Salazar, an internal medicine resident, is the first recipient of a newly created award to recognize significant contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion in Graduate Medical Education.
