Expressing energy is one of the many reasons dance is so wonderful!

Selysa from the Sacramento Reiki Center shared this tip recently on how to help move energy through dance. Selysa shares a lot about reiki, energy work, and self expression, as outside of ecstatic dance she does other performing arts too. Expression and movement of stagnant energy can be encouraged in so many different ways!

We’re excited to start our next dance with Movement Exploration, guided by Jeremy.

Jeremy is a movement artist who has studied different “dialects” of dance from formal, spiritual, and social modalities. He finds value in both structural and free-flowing expression. His journey through different genres and industries grounded him into the universal language of dance.

In this opening activity, we will expand the depth of our movement to assist our flow state. By elevating our movement “language”, we’ll expand our bandwidth to channel the music through our vessel. We will explore nuances of movement both internally and externally. We’ll witness how these nuances alter the manifestations of our dance individually and collectively. This will include variations in muscle tension, energy exchange, intention, pathways, physiological states, and spiritual reference points.

Come early to drop in, tune in, and explore what’s possible when you learn to move in new ways. Doors open at 7:20 pm, for a 7:30 pm start.

All them besides the March dance are at the Clara Auditorium, for our march dance we will still be at the Clara, just in their Annex building. More details to come on that later!

This Friday is our first dance of the year!

Our community is coming together to start the year off right. We will have tea in the lounge hosted by Daisy, a somatic opening activity with Ivan Durst, and our dance will be led by Marcel. After dance our community favorites Eddy, Rose, and Anne will close us out with a lovely sound bath.

We are Ecstatic Dance Midtown-Sacramento!

Ecstatic Dance Midtown-Sacramento is a DJ led community dance gathering. It is an alcohol free, family friendly event. Leave shoes and conversations at the door. We believe that movement is medicine and this is why we create non-verbal spaces. Silence allows the attention to drop out of the mind and into the depth of the body where alchemy resides.

ECSTATIC DANCE MIDTOWN-SACRAMENTO GUIDELINES: VERBAL & NON-VERBAL SPACES:

We’ve created one VERBAL and one NON-VERBAL space for you to engage with your ecstatic dance experience.

VERBAL SPACE: The social lounge area is the space you first walk into that has been created for you to enjoy and experience verbal conversations and connections.

NON-VERBAL SPACE: This is the main dance floor area located in the Auditorium. If a SHORT conversation needs to happen in the NON-VERBAL space, lean into your partner’s ear and whisper to them. If the short conversation turns into a longer one, please take your conversation into the social lounge.

BODY AWARENESS: We encourage interaction and connection on the dance floor. When you want to dance with another, please be sensitive, mindful and slow. Listen for their body’s “YES.” Some suggestions are: mirroring their dance moves, offering a hand, making eye contact and smiling. If they turn away from you, or give you prayer hands in front of their heart in Namaste, this is their “NO.” Don’t take it personally, just redirect yourself and keep dancing. If someone isn’t listening to your NO, or they are making you feel uncomfortable or they are being inappropriate, please tell someone immediately.

BLIND-FOLDED DANCING: This can be a deepening movement experience. However, please be aware of your surroundings, move with care and stay in your space.

PERSONAL HYGIENE: No heavy perfume or oils. Please practice good body hygiene when you come to dance. Seriously, no one likes to dance with stinky people. Bare feet and dance shoes only on the dance floor please.

LITTLE ONES: One attentive adult to one child at all times. Please be aware of little ones around you if they are unattended and help them to get reunited with their adults.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN! This is a comfortable place for you to drop out of your head, into your body, and let loose.
