Excited to announce our workshop for Nov 21st!

Rola Al Ashkar will lead our warm up, helping you step into your body, awaken your breath, and open your voice in this 30-minute prelude to ecstatic dance. Through somatic-informed movements, conscious breathing, sound and rhythm, and vocal expression, she’ll tune our energy, deepen our connection to both inner and outer vibration, and create a communal field that carries into the dance floor.

Rola Al Ashkar is a trauma-informed facilitator, yoga instructor, and community lead, guiding people to reconnect with their bodies, minds, and essence. She draws on yoga, trauma-informed practices, integrative therapy, and somatic movement techniques to create brave, supportive spaces for exploration, healing, and presence. She is the founder and leader of iama Embodied Ministries, a Sacramento-based community exploring embodied spirituality, conscious presence, and integrated living.

With experience leading community workshops, spiritual retreats, embodied conversations, and movement sessions at local and national events, Rola blends curiosity, creativity, and mindfulness to guide participants toward greater vitality, awareness, and connection to themselves and to each other.

This warm up is a must attend, make sure to arrive early for the 7:30 pm start! Want more info about dance on the 21st? Check out the pinned post.

We always want to make sure people can dance, no matter the circumstances!

So please reach out if you ever are not able to come due to financial pressure. Earlier is better for volunteer spots! But we will always try accommodating no matter the timing 💗

Not knowing how to dance may actually make it easier!

Without any dance patterns in your head following your body can be simpler.

Dance, music and evening entertainment is something that has long been associated with subst@nce use, and abuse.

But dance and music go so far beyond this! And many people in recovery have mentioned that they miss dancing, music, and going out.

As Ecstatic Dance is subst@nce free, is it the perfect alternative to raves and clubbing for people in recovery?

Possibly, depending on where you are on what triggers you it may be the perfect option.

Here are some important things to consider:
- Similar environments may trigger a desire to partake.
- Dance is strictly alc*hol free. No alcohol is allowed.
- Dance is subst@nce free on premises, although some people sometimes sm*ke off campus (we are at a school).
- Although people show up and dance sober, some conversations may not be centered around sobriety.
- It's a way back into the music, dance and evening entertainment scene while being in a sober environment.

If you are unsure if dance is right for you, please feel open to sending us a DM! We’d be happy to discuss with you.

I've struggled with chronic nervous system dysregulation myself and found the first moments of regulation on the dance floor.

Your nervous system is the control center of your body. It manages stress, rest, healing, and how you respond to the world. When it's overloaded for too long, it can get stuck in patterns like fight, flight, or freeze.

Dance helps bring it back into balance by;
- Connecting you to your breath
- Moving stagnant energy
- Releasing stored emotions
- Activating joy and presence
- Connecting you with others

In the crazy world we live in your nervous system needs extra support.
Come join us on Nov 21st, see the Facebook event for more info.

We are Ecstatic Dance Midtown-Sacramento!

Ecstatic Dance Midtown-Sacramento is a DJ led community dance gathering. It is an alcohol free, family friendly event. Leave shoes and conversations at the door. We believe that movement is medicine and this is why we create non-verbal spaces. Silence allows the attention to drop out of the mind and into the depth of the body where alchemy resides.

ECSTATIC DANCE MIDTOWN-SACRAMENTO GUIDELINES: VERBAL & NON-VERBAL SPACES:

We’ve created one VERBAL and one NON-VERBAL space for you to engage with your ecstatic dance experience.

VERBAL SPACE: The social lounge area is the space you first walk into that has been created for you to enjoy and experience verbal conversations and connections.
