Thank you Department of PediatricDentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry for the opportunity to speak about the connection between oral health and Type 1 Diabetes, and to share our lived experience as both a T1D family and dentists. βœ¨πŸ’™

It was a privilege to discuss how this systemic condition impacts dental health and why awareness matters for our patients, especially children.✨

Individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes face unique oral health challenges and it is absolutely essential that dental professionals understand how to properly navigate their care and management.

Through the work of the and with the incredible support of and and we continue to educate and advocate for better oral health care for those living with T1D.

As a UCLA alum, it was especially meaningful to be back on campus and reconnect with the school that helped shape my journey in dentistry.

Grateful for the opportunity and truly inspired by the next generation of dentists. πŸ¦·πŸ’™

Today, the American Dental Association ADA News highlights an issue close to our heart: improving dental care for children and adolescents and adults living with Type 1 diabetes. πŸ’™
As dentists and as a family impacted by T1D, we see firsthand how oral health and systemic health are interconnected in those with Type 1 Diabetes. With involvement with our national, state and local dental associations we advocate for dentistry as a profession to do better in the diabetes care arena. ✨
We are grateful to see ADA for listening and exploring opportunities to strengthen education and clinical guidance for dentists and ultimately benefit all persons impacted by Type 1 Diabetes. πŸ’™βœ¨πŸ¦·

✨We are proud of the progress the T1D Oral Health Foundation has made this year, and even more excited about what lies ahead. πŸ’™

✨Thank you to all who support our mission to integrate oral health into Type 1 diabetes care and recognize it as an essential part of systemic health.
✨With the collaboration of appropriate state and national dental societies, we are working to establish clear, science-based guidelines so dentists and all dental professionals can better advise their T1D patients, and all T1D warriors and families can feel informed, confident and supported in managing oral health.

✨Your belief in this work makes meaningful change possible. Here’s to continued progress in the year ahead.πŸ™πŸ’™

Smiling because something meaningful happened today . βœ¨πŸ’™

Our resolution to recognize children with Type 1 diabetes as a high-risk category deserving focused attention was heard, supported, and well received . Change happens when we are heard and today, we were. πŸ’™

Now comes the important part.
With support from the American Dental Association and California Dental Association, we will begin working alongside the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry to develop guidelines, provide guidance and integrate oral-health into T1D over all care.

Here’s to the work ahead, and the progress still to come. βœ¨πŸ’™

Today was an important day. πŸ’™
I had the privilege of presenting a resolution to the California Dental Association to recognize children with Type 1 Diabetes as a high-risk group for oral health, paving the way for better guidance , advocacy, education, research, and more πŸ’™

As a mom to a child with T1D and as a dentist, this isn’t just policy, it’s personal. T1D kids are little warriors who already navigate challenges most people will never see… their oral health shouldn’t be another one.

We wore blue hearts in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month, and I want to give a heartfelt thank you to American Dental Association ADA President Dr. Rich Rosato for supporting this effort and proudly wearing our bedazzled blue heart πŸ’™βœ¨

A sincere thank you as well to the Orange County dental society for this team effort OCDS, and California Dental Association as well as Dr. Karin Irani , Trustee for the 13th District, for your support, guidance, and advocacy. Your belief in this effort means so much, not just to me, but to every child and family affected by Type 1 Diabetes.

Voting takes place tomorrow.
Stay tuned and keep those blue hearts close. πŸ’™
