ASTA Small Business Network-Sacramento Chapter

ASTA Small Business Network-Sacramento Chapter Sacramento ASTA is the foremost association dedicated to providing the finest education, training, networking and representation in support of travel advisors.

The National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA), was established in 1986 as the original association with a mission to represent the interests of independent and home based travel entrepreneurs. Host travel agencies and suppliers who support this growing sector of the distribution channel are also members of NACTA. NACTA is continuing its objective to promote the professionalism and recognition of our productive group of travel agents. The association retains its role to focus on the development and educational programs for our valued members and to expand the many member benefits such as health care insurance, discounts on office supplies and more. Our overall objective is to enhance and secure their success in retail travel sales. Our Suppliers and Host Agency partners find NACTA members to have a strong reputation and are highly regarded as the best of the independent and home based agents. We work to provide an exceptional forum not only for members to network with each other but also for members to build relationships with NACTA’s strategic supplier partners. NACTA is a wholly owned affiliate of ASTA, the American Society of Travel Agents. ASTA and NACTA, while separate associations, work to protect and enhance the entire retail distribution channel. Become of member NACTA, the association that represents the best independent travel agents in the industry. We strive to represent your best interests, you belong at NACTA!

You are likely aware of the recent announcement from the Federal Aviation Administration that 40 of our nation’s busiest airports are facing a phased reduction in scheduled flights. Beginning today, four percent of flights are impacted, potentially rising to ten percent due to air traffic control staffing pressures resulting from the ongoing government shutdown.

This development has direct implications for the travel advisor community and the clients you serve. ASTA is committed to keeping you informed, equipping you with guidance, and helping you turn this disruption into a competitive advantage through proactive planning and client communication.

As your national trade association, ASTA is actively engaged on multiple fronts. We are continuing to advocate for an immediate end to the government shutdown and a return to full FAA operations. Our advocacy team is in close contact with federal officials and industry partners to ensure that travel advisors’ concerns are heard as operational decisions are made.

ASTA has launched a new online reporting tool for our members to report and track delays in hotel commission payments. The tool is designed to collect and escalate concerns directly with ASTA hotel partners, shining a light on the scope of late and missing payments.

💵 Hotel commissions are a vital source of revenue for travel advisors. Payment delays can disrupt cash flow, erode trust and add unnecessary administrative burdens. For too long, advisors have endured the frustration of inconsistent or late commission payments without a clear avenue for redress.

This new tool is a significant step in empowering advisors and raising the collective voice of the travel agency community. By aggregating data and identifying patterns of late payment, ASTA can more effectively advocate with hotel partners and industry stakeholders to ensure advisors are compensated fairly and promptly.

"Timely commission payments are not just a matter of fairness, they are essential to the financial health of travel agencies," said Zane Kerby, ASTA President and CEO. "Travel advisors should not have to chase down payments for work already completed. This tool brings accountability to the commission process, highlighting where delays are most common and giving ASTA the leverage to address them directly with hotels. By shining a spotlight on this issue, ASTA is making clear that late payments are unacceptable and must be corrected if our industry is to thrive."

If the hotel is not an ASTA partner, the property will be added to a watchlist of hotels flagged for commission non-payment. This list will be shared within the ASTA community to assist other travel advisors with making informed decisions about booking their clients with these properties.
