Recovery Dharma Sacramento

Recovery Dharma Sacramento Recovery Dharma is a Buddhist path to recovering from addiction. This page is available for information about the Sacramento, CA meeting groups. Please join us!

Recovery Dharma: is a mindfulness-based addiction recovery program and community that utilizes Buddhist philosophy as the foundation of the recovery process. Drawing inspiration from the core teachings of the Four Noble Truths, emphasis is placed on both knowledge and empathy as a means for overcoming addiction and its causes. Those struggling with substance abuse greatly benefit when they are able to understand the suffering that addiction has created while developing compassion for the pain they have experienced. We start each meeting with a guided meditation (20-30 minutes), followed by a short reading from the book, Recovery Dharma. Then we open the meeting to the group for sharing our experience on the chosen topic. People seeking recovery from any form of addiction are welcome. No background with Buddhism is necessary.

Happy Sunday!

Don't run here and there
looking all around---
Can't you see?
Your face is glowing with light.
What you seek is right inside you.

Is there any place where the Sun doesn't shine?
Is there anyone who can't see the full moon?

Once you see the glory
Of his moon-beam face
What excuse could you have
for pain or sorrow?

Veil upon veil, thought upon thought---
Let them go,
All they do is hide the truth.

The veil of ignorance
covers the Sun and Moon
It even causes Love to think, I am not divine.

Just when you think your active role as a parent is winding down, as your own children become independent adults... a tiny voice calls out “Grandma,” and your world shifts completely.

This simple word unlocks a new, immense, and completely unexpected form of love—a second spring of the heart gifted to you by life itself.

It's a familiar feeling for many women. You’ve successfully navigated the turbulent waters of motherhood. You've raised your children, you’ve steered the ship, and now you’re finally enjoying a bit of well-deserved freedom.

Then comes the call, the news that one of your children is expecting. The joy is immediate, yet the emotional transition is complex. You are no longer just a mother; you are now a parent to a parent.

You get to witness the incredible transformation of your own child as they step into the enormous responsibility of parenthood. This can be one of the deepest and most rewarding feelings a grandmother can experience—seeing your legacy continue, not just in your grandchild, but in the wonderful parent your adult child has become.
But the real magic begins with the grandchild.

This love is often described as unconditional, instant, and overwhelming. Many grandmothers find it to be an entirely different experience than raising their own kids. As a parent, you were focused on setting rules, teaching responsibility, and managing the daily grind. As a grandparent, you are given the incredible gift of pure, unadulterated enjoyment.

Grandchildren are truly a blessing, injecting a vibrant energy back into your life. They bring with them the chance to relive the simple, beautiful wonders of childhood without the stress of being the primary rule-enforcer.

The sweet voice calling out “Grandma” is more than just a title; it’s a constant reminder that life continues to give, that your heart can expand exponentially, and that you have a vital, joyful role to play for years to come.
