A wonderful recognition for our work. A proud moment to share. It wouldn't be possible without the power of our community and the connections with all of you!

It’s been a tough year for some of the nation’s largest charities as the Trump Administration has slashed funding for humanitarian relief, disaster assistance and other social services abroad and in the U.S. The 2025 Forbes list of America’s Top 100 Charities doesn’t yet reflect most of that damage, but it does show which charities were at risk—and may be particularly in need and deserving of your dollars now.

New federal work requirements for Medi-Cal and CalFresh are coming—and understandably, many families are worried.

In this Arc Beacon update, Executive Director, Jordan Lindsey explains what H.R.1 means for Californians with developmental disabilities, who is excluded from these new requirements, and when changes are expected to take effect.

Bottom line: many people with disabilities and family caregivers are exempt, and California is building systems to protect eligible individuals automatically.

Watch to understand the timelines, the safeguards, and what The Arc of California is monitoring closely on your behalf.

Check out photos from El Arc de California's 7th Latino Disability Leadership Summit in San Bernardino at the Inland Regional Center!

On December 5 and 6, 60 Latino leaders from across California came together to learn, share, and organize for equity in services for people with disabilities and their families.

It was two days of dialogue, collaboration, and community leadership, where El Arc reaffirmed their commitment to a clear and united advocacy agenda for the future. We thank all the families, advocates, allies, and organizations that made this powerful space possible.

These photos capture the energy, commitment, and strength of our community when we work together. 🧡

A really in-depth article by CalMatters.org reporter Carolyn Jones on how the federal dismantling of the Department of Education and cuts to Medicaid could impact students with disabilities in Califiornia: https://calmatters.org/education/k-12-education/2025/12/students-with-disabilities/

"For the time being ... advocates are reminding families that federal funding might be shrinking, but the laws remain unchanged. Students are still entitled under federal law to the services outlined in their individual education plans, regardless of whether there’s money to pay for it. The funding will have to come from somewhere, at least for now, even if that means cutting it from another program. And California is unlikely to roll back its own special education protections, regardless of what happens in Washington, D.C."

Trump’s budget includes nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, which funds a wide swath of services to disabled children, including speech, occupational and physical therapy, wheelchairs, in-home aides and medical care.
