Last month at Mease Countryside Hospital, Melissa Monforte received something she never thought possible: the chance to live without pain again.

Through BayCare's Orthopedic Institute and our partnership with Operation Walk USA, Clearwater Free Clinic and St. Petersburg Free Clinic, four uninsured local residents received free joint replacements — including Melissa, who had been living with debilitating hip pain.

Before surgery, Melissa couldn’t walk more than 200 feet without excruciating pain and missed moments that mattered most — like going trick-or-treating with her 4-year-old granddaughter. When she learned the surgery was really happening, both she and her daughter cried.

Now, Melissa is looking forward to walking pain-free, spending time with her grandchildren, and returning to work. “I just want to live,” she said.

The future Pagidipati Children’s Hospital at St. Joseph’s, a freestanding, state-of-the-art facility opening in 2030, will advance pediatric health care across West Central Florida.

Welcome to the first babies of 2026 at Mease Countryside Hospital! 🎉

What a beautiful way to ring in the New Year — times two! 💙💗

Twin babies Vito and Dakota made their grand entrance on January 1, surprising everyone (including mom!) with double the joy. Baby boy Vito, pictured on the left, arrived at 3:41 a.m., weighing 4 lbs. 13 oz. Just five minutes later at 3:46 a.m., his sister Dakota followed, weighing 5 lbs. 9 oz.

Two precious miracles and one unforgettable New Year’s surprise. Congratulations to this wonderful family, and welcome to the world, Vito and Dakota! 🍼✨

A little holiday magic can mean everything ❤️🎄

A few weeks ago, Santa and Mrs. Claus brought smiles, laughter and comfort to Mease Countryside Hospital, thanks to our dedicated Child Life team. From the pediatric unit to the NICU and OB, they shared stuffed animals, small gifts and special moments with Santa — creating joy where it’s needed most.

These visits help normalize the hospital experience and remind our youngest patients and their families that they are not alone, especially during the holidays. This Christmas, we’re deeply grateful for the compassion and care that turns a hospital stay into a moment of magic and hope. 🎅✨

Celebrating Baby’s First Christmas at Mease Countryside Hospital! 🎄✨

Our incredible Labor and Delivery nurses went above and beyond to make this season extra special for new families. They lovingly handcrafted ornaments for our newborns’ very first Christmas — a keepsake to cherish for years to come.

It’s thoughtful touches like these that make holiday moments in our hospital truly magical. ❤️

Mease Countryside Hospital recently came together in remembrance and love during our annual Forever Footprints Candle Lighting. 💜🕯️

Held each year for families who have experienced a miscarriage or fetal loss while in our care, this gentle gathering offers time to pause, reflect and honor the babies who left us far too soon — but are forever held in our hearts.

This year was especially meaningful, as more than 40 family members and loved ones joined us — the largest attendance since we began this tradition in 2019.

Together, we lit candles, shared quiet moments of reflection and created space for remembrance, healing and connection.

To every family who joined us, thank you for trusting us with your stories and allowing us to honor your babies alongside you. You are not alone — your Mease Countryside Hospital family is here for you, always.
