I have an interesting job. I get to meet some really cool people and have become life long friends with many of them.

What brought us together was a business challenge they were dealing with and sought my assistance.

I’m in Missouri now visiting a hugely successful client. I’ve personally learned a lot from this client. He’s smart and can out-produce a half dozen of his staff, but he is having a growth challenge.

The challenge is with humans…

Getting a couple of key positions to understand the difference between doing a job versus owning the outcome of that job, is really, really easy to do in concept.

However, in actuality, it can be one of the most difficult things you’ll have to deal with as a business owner.

I’m saying that getting a team member to OWN the outcome of their job is the most common barrier to growth. Sounds crazy, right?

No one should wonder why so many business owners are interested in substituting AI for humans…

Who wants a “busy” AI that accomplishes very little? You want an AI to help you get s**t done quickly and accurately that brings value to your business.

If AI didn’t accomplish the product of getting s**t done quickly and accurately, you’d fire that AI.

Back to humans…

Many businesses unfortunately have staff who are making themselves so easy to be replaced with technology. These staff are “busy” but not focused on “dones” or owning the outcomes of their performance.

Here is the handling to get people to get things done:

1. Define completely the end result(s) or product(s) that should occur for their position.

2. Make sure they know how to measure that outcome statistically.

3. Outline the shortest list of details THEY MUST KNOW WITH CERTAINTY to get them able to get their defined product. No fluff.

4. Train them intensively on how to execute #3.

5. Determine viability within your KPI scope.
6. Push dones only.

People who can get dones in high quantity and quality will always have a bright future.

Unfortunately, staff who are “busy” but get little done will soon be replaced with the ones and zeros of AI.

Become more competent and demand more competence from your team.

Doing so is an activity where everyone will win.

After years I finally learned what not to do: treat your AI like a replacement.

It's not about replacing your team. It's about making them unstoppable.

Think about your best receptionist. Amazing, right? But even they take sick days. They go on vacation. They have off days. They forget things because they're human.
