The Light –
Here in Arizona, there is no paper mail in prison anymore.
And honestly, I was kind of bummed.
There’s something powerful about being able to open
something and hold it in your hands.
But having The Light on the tablet has always been my goal.
So I decided I could either create or complain.
I was having a hard time doing both at the same time.
I chose to be a creator.
I chose to build.
I started the Soberflowergirl Podcast — really organic and authentic — with my laptop and a ring
light, encouraged by my support system.
I surround myself with other creators and builders.
They inspire me.
I started the Sunrise Project and this newsletter the same way:
I start.
I struggle.
I build.
Brick by brick, I lay the foundation.
And sometimes it’s shaky.
But I build anyway.
We all started again after incarceration and/or addiction.
We created nonprofits, brands, businesses, families.
No blueprint.
No applause.
No perfect timing.
We. Built. Anyway.
Tired? Build anyway.
Doubtful? Build anyway.
When no one’s watching?
Build anyway.
That’s when the real foundations are laid.
Use what you have.
Move through messy.
Surround yourself with other builders.
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, build a team.
You don’t have to build alone.
But remember this:
No one is coming to save you.
And they don’t need to.
You are powerful enough to save yourself.
