I never expected this to happen, and yet, humanity prevails.
Here’s the inspiring story I want to share.
Since day one of opening Revivify’s practice, I’ve repeated the same sentiment over and over to clients – “you do not ever have to verbally share what you are going through; however, I am a safe space, and I have the training and ability to respond appropriately, if you want to expand on what you are experiencing.” I leave it simple like that because it allows clients to have autonomy of where they are and why they are coming to see me. I am clear with boundaries that I am not a mental health therapist.
Maxi (name change) began coming to see me almost from the day our doors opened in 2021. Over the years, Maxi has come in and trusted me with what she is navigating in her life by sharing her experiences - many of which have been heavy. Maxi understands that, through expression, she feels that heaviness, which can then get on the table and, through intentional touch in massage, her body naturally settles and softens, making new space for the flow of energies, which carries on until her next appointment.
Fast forward, about 8 months ago, Betty (also name changed) began coming to Revivify. She expressed how deeply Revivify’s pricing system touched her heart. We discussed it further and its impact. Roughly a month ago, Betty asked before her treatment, “Do you know of anyone who can use extra support this holiday season? Based on your background and the many people you work with, I figured you might know of someone? I want to help that person/family.”
This momentarily took me aback because I never saw this coming. Ever. What in the world? My instant response was, “The agency I work for, and yet, (pause and take a deep breath), let me reflect before I answer this”.
As Betty was leaving after her session, I shared that I would get back to her with more choices so she could decide how she moves forward with spreading her support.
Over the next few days and weeks, I pondered deeply. Maxi. Yes! I connected with Maxi about this to see where her heart lies for someone who wants to spread their support beyond their world. Maxi’s response was, “Someone wants to do that? Just knowing there is someone out there locally who wants to do this is enough for me. It fills my cup knowing there are people in our community who think this way. And that you are building this at Revivify”.
Both ladies allowed me to share their contact information, and I stepped back once that happened. They took over from there – let the kindness of humanity shine! I am here for that!
