I never expected this to happen, and yet, humanity prevails.

Here’s the inspiring story I want to share.

Since day one of opening Revivify’s practice, I’ve repeated the same sentiment over and over to clients – “you do not ever have to verbally share what you are going through; however, I am a safe space, and I have the training and ability to respond appropriately, if you want to expand on what you are experiencing.” I leave it simple like that because it allows clients to have autonomy of where they are and why they are coming to see me. I am clear with boundaries that I am not a mental health therapist.

Maxi (name change) began coming to see me almost from the day our doors opened in 2021. Over the years, Maxi has come in and trusted me with what she is navigating in her life by sharing her experiences - many of which have been heavy. Maxi understands that, through expression, she feels that heaviness, which can then get on the table and, through intentional touch in massage, her body naturally settles and softens, making new space for the flow of energies, which carries on until her next appointment.

Fast forward, about 8 months ago, Betty (also name changed) began coming to Revivify. She expressed how deeply Revivify’s pricing system touched her heart. We discussed it further and its impact. Roughly a month ago, Betty asked before her treatment, “Do you know of anyone who can use extra support this holiday season? Based on your background and the many people you work with, I figured you might know of someone? I want to help that person/family.”

This momentarily took me aback because I never saw this coming. Ever. What in the world? My instant response was, “The agency I work for, and yet, (pause and take a deep breath), let me reflect before I answer this”.

As Betty was leaving after her session, I shared that I would get back to her with more choices so she could decide how she moves forward with spreading her support.

Over the next few days and weeks, I pondered deeply. Maxi. Yes! I connected with Maxi about this to see where her heart lies for someone who wants to spread their support beyond their world. Maxi’s response was, “Someone wants to do that? Just knowing there is someone out there locally who wants to do this is enough for me. It fills my cup knowing there are people in our community who think this way. And that you are building this at Revivify”.

Both ladies allowed me to share their contact information, and I stepped back once that happened. They took over from there – let the kindness of humanity shine! I am here for that!

Hello!

My name is Kate. I am a licensed massage therapist at Revivify in the heart of Saginaw Township.

We are at the cusp of the holiday season. For many, it is filled with joy and mystery. For others, it is chaos and overwhelming. Our panic begins, and our anxiety feels like it freezes time with no end in sight.

Headaches begin, our blood pressure spikes, we can't seem to take a deep breath, and we can't settle down.

It is why Revivify is here. I know firsthand how the holiday season can wreak havoc on our bodies and minds. I invite you to come in to see me so I can help you enter the holiday season with calmer energy.

I hope to see you soon! Book directly online.

"I came to see Kate after being on steroids for a little over a week. My body felt like it was buzzing. I hadn't been able to sleep, my hands were visibly shaking, and I felt like I was in overdrive. When my massage was finished, I felt calmer with no buzzing. I got a great night's sleep and felt calm the next day despite still taking the steroids. I can't thank you enough, Kate, for helping calm my body."

Trina O.

I am so grateful when clients find relief. Thank you, Trina, for trusting in the work I do.

Do you feel anxious? Are you struggling with weight concerns? How about inconsistent blood pressure or even imbalanced estrogen and/or testosterone?

I attended an all-weekend workshop in October at my doctor's invitation, as she knew it would help me be a better massage therapist and help my clients.

The training focused on our gland system (pituitary, pineal, thyroid, adrenals, pancreas, te**es, ovaries, and thymus etc.) and the impact it has when it is functioning correctly or not.

It's incredible what can be done with our bodies when given proper touch to stimulate the body's natural ability to heal, unwind, and find balance again.

Today was special because a client who had given birth to her baby six weeks ago came in with the baby to receive a massage.

This was a first for me.

The little baby snuggled into her mom's arms while momma received cranial sacral therapy. Not only did mom benefit, but baby did, too.

It was an honor to provide treatment to both of them today. Mom texted saying baby took a 4-hour nap afterwards.

Revivifying two clients at once today. I'll take it.

* This photo is not my client's baby. The client's baby was much cuter!

I feel balanced and tranquil today.

A thoughtful sentiment was shared with me by a client after their massage. She expressed after her treatment how, before I begin massaging her, she silently offers up a prayer to support my hands and bless me and my family.

The words were incredibly appreciated. I feel the support and love from her simple prayer she shared with me.

Most people don't realize that, before I begin a massage, I bring intention to the space. I silently ask the client to allow me to do the work they need. That their body accepts and softens to the work that will be done. At the end of each session, I complete by silently sending another intention of continued healing, love, peace, and safety.

When my client shared her prayer with me, it floored me because, in my mind, and in how I go through life, this is how we should treat our fellow humans: with respect, kindness, empathy, support, love, safety, and understanding, whether silently or out loud.

It is incredible what prayer, intention setting, and mantras can do for each other and our world.

Keep that in mind as we navigate chaotic moments in life.

Massage therapy is like a calling because not everyone can do it (nor wants to).

Manual therapy (massage therapy) is also an art.

When you have a massage treatment, I am working on two nervous systems (yours and mine). That's fascinating when you think about that.

Part of what happens when you come in for treatment is that our systems have to sync up and "communicate" with each other silently (kinesthetically). My job is to do that, and it can have barriers depending on both of us and any external factors. That is why I need to stay grounded as much as possible when I am not in work mode. It is why I attend therapy and receive bodywork as well.

I am told by many of you that Revivify's treatments are "different", and that is because I primarily work on your nervous system, which allows me to go deeper to target those muscles.

Revivify is client-centered, and I am called to this career as a way to help others learn more about themselves through massage therapy, which I am beyond humbled by.

Through intentional massage therapy, I help calm your body and mind while providing relief and hope in a gentle, safe, and natural way.

Adoption is something that is often chosen (by the adoptive family) and not (by the child). Adoption has been around in our culture since the 1850s, and it is still not something fully understood by many. It is also an area that many people want to be involved in, and yet have no idea how to do so.

Adoption has had a profound impact on my family across multiple generations. For 10 years of my previous career, I worked as an adoption worker for Legacy Adoption Services (LAS), supporting and finding forever families for children in the Michigan foster care system. What a rewarding career that was. I continue to be a team player with the agency, yet in a different capacity.

1,000's of children in Michigan are in the foster care system and need a family to adopt them. Experts believe that the population of foster children in our state will only grow as a direct consequence of the pandemic and its impact on the stability of families. These children need support more than ever.

What can you do? There are many ways to help:

October 4th will be the 11th year of the Forever Home Run 5K race in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. It is a lively event that honors children in care waiting to be adopted and adoptive families. 100% of the net proceeds raised from this event will provide funding for projects that serve to enhance the effectiveness of adoption placement and family formation.

I have gone almost every year, and Revivify will be there again this year to volunteer and donate. If you have always wanted to get involved with the child welfare system, here’s one way you can.
