Dysregulation can show up in multiple ways, affecting emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and even the body. It might look like intense mood swings, feeling overwhelmed by small stressors, or having difficulty calming down once upset. Some people experience racing thoughts, irritability, or a sense of emotional numbness, while others may react impulsively or struggle to stay focused.
Physically, dysregulation can appear as fatigue, restlessness, muscle tension, or changes in sleep and appetite. Socially, it may lead to withdrawing from others or having conflict in relationships. At times, it can also show up as difficulty adapting to change or managing everyday responsibilities.
Because dysregulation is not one-size-fits-all, it often looks different from person to person and even from day to day. Recognizing these patterns is an important first step toward building skills for regulation and support🙌
