Rest Easy K9 Canjo. Thank you for all you years of loyal service! Great Lakes wishes your family and coworkers comfort as they say their goodbyes. 🐾♥️🐾

At 8:00 AM this morning, retired Saginaw Police K9 Canjo gained his forever angel wings and joined heaven’s K-9 unit. He fought numerous illnesses over the last 16 months and defied all odds each time. Many times he challenged his doctors with his diagnoses - or lack thereof - and taught some of them a few new things.

Canjo was instrumental in getting the SVPCA up and going. He attended hundreds community events, building bridges and opening minds to the idea of donation-funded K-9 units.

Rest now, Canjo. Your work on earth is done. You protected your dad and community with honor. We are better humans for having known you and loved you.

We wish you a long and happy life with your new family, Billy!

Adoption update: Little Billy has been adopted by a wonderful family and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Billy came to us with a hidden medical condition. While he was meeting his adoptive family he had a major seizure. We rushed Billy to our friends at Great Lakes Pet Emergency where he was examined and started on anticonvulsant medication. He spent the next few days being transferred back and forth between GLPE and Cole Veterinary Hospital so he could remain under 24 hour supervision. Because of the quick action of shelter staff and the stellar care of our area vets, Billy stayed seizure free and was able to be discharged. Now for the really exciting and special part; the family that met him still wanted to adopt Billy despite a life long medical condition. They remained in close contact with us throughout his ordeal to learn how to manage his condition. We are so thankful for adopters like these that are committed to caring for their pets for life!
