From a lightning strike to the Paralympic podium, U.S. Army veteran Scott Severn has never stopped defying the odds.

After rotator cuff surgery, he turned to Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, Michigan, to rebuild his strength, and his independence. 🧡

This Veterans Day, we salute Scott and every Veteran whose courage reminds us that freedom and resilience go hand in hand.

Seth from Kawkawlin, MI has been busy redefining what’s possible, one step at a time. ⭐

Seth began toe walking at a young age and eventually developed contractures. He underwent Achilles tendon lengthening surgery at age 5, but continued toe walking as he grew.

When surgery was recommended again at 15, his parents championed a different path and brought him to Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare for serial casting. 🧡

After 8 focused weeks, Seth reached full flat-foot contact, is now walking heel-to-toe, and is supported with custom bracing from our orthotics & prosthetics team.

He’ll continue working in our outpatient therapy program to build strength and keep his progress moving forward.💪

His hard work is paying off. Take a look at how far he’s come! 👣

We had a spooktacular Halloween season at Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare!

We decorated cookies and pumpkins, took fall trips to Johnson’s Pumpkin Farm, and ended last week with our pumpkin and costume contests! 🎃👻

After being told she’d never walk again, Amanda from Linden, MI, refused to give up. 💪

Diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome – AMSAN, a rare and severe form affecting both motor and sensory nerves, she spent six months in a nursing home before coming to Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare.

“I came here and felt like I had a reason to live again. It was a total life changer…It was the best thing that happened to me aside from my kids.”

Today, Amanda is walking with a walker and headed toward her next chapter. 💚
