Winner, winner, Milk-Bone dinner!

Who were the winners in the third La Posada resident Pet Runway show?

🐶 1st place CiCi (4-legged rescue) owner Judy & Skip Brauns
🐶 2nd place Biscuit ( Miniature Schnauzer) owner Mike Tannenbaum
🐶 3rd place Barney ( miniature golden doodle) owner Cal Kemp presented by Anne Gaydos

16 residents and their pets hit the heart-shaped rug at the Recreation Center for a howling great honor: best-decorated pooch.

The four-legged models decked in their fashionable St. Valentine’s attire for a quick stroll and the honor of winning homemade dog treats while bringing laughter and happiness to two-legged neighbors. The owners or walkers who placed in this competition received a Posada Java gift cards.

Dogs bring out the best in people. Sometimes, we all need their innocence and silliness to distract us from our daily problems.

Events like this pet Runway show at La Posada allow others to share their love of dogs with those who don’t have a furrever friend. La Posada resident life is about sharing what makes you happy or inspires you with others.

Congrats to all resident pets and owners on their soulful strut down the pet runway.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Noses saying hello.
No questions asked, no past to defend.
Just ā€œI’m glad you’re hereā€ from a wagging friend, offering a joyous dance.

Yesterday, 16 residents’ furrever friends took part in the St. Valentine’s Pet Runway show at La Posada at Green Valley. Poodles, a cavapoo, hounds, miniature schnauzers, and golden doodles of all sizes walked a heart-covered runway, giving smiles, laughter, and love with every step.

Why moments like this matter?

Pet-friendly community events help foster belonging, ease loneliness, and create joyful shared memories. For residents without pets of their own, events like this offer a chance to enjoy the comfort, charm, and happiness that wet dog kisses bring.

Stay tuned for the winners from the third pet runway show at La Posada.

Some of the best conversations don’t start with words. They begin with a shared table, making a shared discovery together.

Last Saturday evening, La Posada residents gathered for Sip Into February, a relaxed social hour designed to spark gourmet discovery, conversation, and connection.

The evening featured wine from Charron Vineyards and Winery, a well-known Arizona winery just down the road, inviting residents to explore local winemaking without ever leaving home.

At the center of the room sat a welcoming spread: savory meats, cheeses, olives, vegetables, and crisp crackers. The kind of table that encourages people to linger. To ask questions. To trade tasting notes and life stories about their favorite flavors.

Adding to the atmosphere, High Desert Duo filled the space with live music that moved effortlessly between easy listening and dance-worthy rhythms. Some residents swayed and danced, others relaxed and listened, all sharing the same room and the same moment.

For those who preferred hops over grapes, beer from a local Arizona brewery rounded out the evening’s flavors.

Events like this are part of everyday life at La Posada. Throughout the year, residents enjoy culinary and social experiences that turn meals into moments and neighbors into friends.

It’s not just about what’s served. It’s about what unfolds around the table.

Thanks, Beth Ernst and Chef Miguel, for sharing your photos with our digital peeps.

The room didn’t just hear the music, it felt it.

Yesterday at La Posada Adult Day Services, the day's tempo shifted as volunteer musicians Jerry & Terry brought their love of classic rock ’n’ roll straight to our participants.

Some dancers took to the floor, trading steps and smiles with fellow participants and team members. Others kept time from their chairs, swaying, clapping, and rocking along like the band's heartbeat. No one left out of the moment.

There’s something powerful about sharing music as a group…

šŸŽµ Familiar songs spark memories like a favorite verse
šŸŽµ Movement, big or small, gets the body and spirit in sync
šŸŽµ Laughter and connection rise naturally when everyone’s on the same beat

Dancing and listening together turns music into more than sound, it becomes well-being in action. It lifts moods, strengthens connections, and reminds us that joy often arrives with a chorus of smiles.

A big thank-you to Jerry & Terry for turning yesterday into a feel-good jam session our participants are still humming about.

This past weekend started in a low gear and finished with the wind at their backs.

The La Posada residents, known as the Posada Pedalers, rolled up their sleeves and pant legs to help organize and operate the Tom Wilsted Memorial Bike Round-Up, joining forces with friends from the Green Valley Recreation Cycling Club and the Cyclists of Quail Creek.

The results were nothing short of a perfectly tuned ride:

• 100 bicycles donated
• Gear galore, from racks and tires to rims, brakes, gears, and cargo carriers
• 18 volunteers, seven of whom are La Posada residents, powering the day

Like a well-maintained chain, every link mattered. Those bikes are now headed to local nonprofits that put wheels under young riders across our region, including BICAS, OS3 Movement, Continental School Mountain Bike Club, and Sopori Elementary School.

Why does cycling matter here in the Arizona desert?

Riding in the desert teaches balance, patience, and momentum. You learn to pace yourself like a long climb, hydrate as if it’s part of the drivetrain, and read the road the way you read the wind.

Bicycles become more than transportation.

They are freedom on two wheels, resilience with spokes, and keep desert dwellers rolling side by side beneath vast open skies.

To the cyclists who showed up, donated, sorted, lifted, and cheered one another on: you proved that when a local community pedals together, the impact travels far beyond the trailhead and the asphalt.

Congratulations to the event steering committee, comprised of Tim Stewart, Hank Deutsch, Larry Coffin, Tom Ward, Karen Rainsford, and Vicki Roy, for envisioning and guiding this fruitful event.

Stay tuned for more volunteerism stories from these dedicated cyclists.

Is one of your New Year’s Resolutions to donate your old bicycle or bike equipment?

The 2026 TOM WILSTEAD MEMORIAL BIKE ROUND-UP is this Saturday and Sunday.

Tom was a resident of La Posada and helped to create the Posada Pedalers, our resident cycling club. His mission with this bike round-up was to introduce the joy of cycling to others who couldn’t afford a bicycle. Local biking non-profits make effective use of your donations in Tucson, the Santa Cruz area and Nogales for deserving kids, teens, and adults and to promote safe cycling.

The last round-up resulted in more than 140 donated cycles. In 2026, the Green Valley Recreation Cycling Club’s goal is to exceed that number.

Date of Event: Saturday, January 31, 2026 & Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Hours: 9 am – 2 pm

Donation location: La Posada Community Center on the La Posada campus.

Also, are you looking to do volunteering as part of a New Year’s Resolution?

Volunteers will be needed to assist in the gathering and cleanup of donated bicycles and cycling gear, and to load bikes to various local youth cycling charities.

Donated bikes and equipment go to Continental School Mountain Bike Club, BICAS, 0S3 Movement, and El Grupo.

Each bike donor receives a certificate for a free cup of coffee at Posada Java.

Namaste means whatever is precious and beautiful in me honors whatever is precious and beautiful in you!

Ladies and gentlemen, one of La Posada’s first residents has returned: The African Daisy.

Sometimes the best moments start with a small risk.

Like stepping onto the dance floor.

Each month, La Posada residents strut their stuff at our Everybody Dance social, and the atmosphere said it all, all over the room. With a local dance instructor setting the tone, the music did the rest.

Some arrived as couples, already knowing the steps. Others came solo, not knowing exactly how it would go, but willing to give it a try.

And that’s when the magic happens:

* Smiles appeared mid-song
* Hesitation turned into laughter
* Old friends danced as if no time had passed
* New connections formed between beats

No one had to be perfect.
No one had to be partnered.
You just had to say yes to the moment.

At La Posada, dancing is an invitation to move, to laugh, to connect, and to surprise yourself.

If you’ve been watching from the edge of the dance floor, consider this your cue.

The music’s already playing.
