Passover is an 8-day Jewish holiday that celebrates the Israelites’ escape from slavery. It’s usually celebrated with a meal, called a Sedar, on the first two nights. During those meals people come together, usually at home, to tell the story of the escape (the “Exodus”) and eat a variety of foods that symbolize that time - most notable is matzah. Matzah is an unleavened bread, or bread that isn’t allowed to rise (it’s really cracker-like).

The reason for the focus on foods that aren’t allowed to rise is because the Israelites left Egypt in a hurry and the bread they made for their journey didn’t have time to rise. In fact, for the whole 8 days, Jewish people avoid eating any food that is leavened, so traditional breads and cereals are out.

Passover, and in fact all Jewish Holidays, follow the Hebrew calendar so they don’t match up with the same days as they do on our Gregorian calendar. This year, the first night of Passover is April 1st and goes through April 9th.

Passover, at its core, is a celebration of freedom – always remembering the hardships while celebrating the freedom.

RN Haley, RN Josh, and LNA Debbi, in PCU earned NMC's most recent High Reliability Champion honors after being nominated by one of their peers! The nomination read:

“I was having difficulty reorienting a patient, and my coworkers, Haley, Debbi and Josh heard me communicating with the patient and immediately came to my assistance. We were able to help the patient back to bed safely and clean her up. The whole team then proceeded to also help clean up the room due to the circumstances that had transpired. The fact that I didn't even need to ring the call bell and that they were paying attention to their teammate and immediately came in without being asked was the best type of teamwork I could ask for. No one complained and no one was in a bad mood. I could only hope to keep working with a great group of people”

Congratulations, Haley, Josh and Debbi! Thank you for going above and beyond to help the team!
