UPDATE!!!!
We have two that have completed the “Internal Pipping” and can be heard chirping!!

1. Internal Pipping:
The chick, using its egg tooth, a small, hard bump on its beak, creates a hole in the eggshell, specifically within the air cell. This is a crucial first step, as it allows the chick to access oxygen.
2. Resting:
Once the chick has broken into the air cell, it takes a break, as breaking through the shell is a tiring process.
3. External Pipping:
After resting, the chick begins to "unzip" the rest of the shell, slowly chipping away at the shell with its egg tooth and beak. This process requires the chick to move and rotate within the egg.
4. Hatching:
Eventually, the chick will break out of the shell completely, emerging as a newly hatched chick.

It is Lockdown day!!!

Day 18 is crucial for hatching chicken eggs. At this stage, turning stops and humidity is increased to support proper hatching. Disturbing eggs can harm chicks. Maintaining stable temperature and humidity ensures successful development and hatch. It’s the final, delicate phase before chicks emerge.

Final days before “Lockdown”, but there has been a lot of changes since candling on day 14.

• Day 15: The small intestines are drawn into the body, and the chick grows rapidly.
• Day 16: Feathers are fully developed, and the embryo fills most of the egg.
• Day 17: The beak turns towards the air cell, preparing for pipping (breaking the shell).
