I was asked to speak to the social work class at WIU today about my career path working with older adults. I'm excited and honored to be asked to come back to the university that I graduated from. I hope to inspire other social workers to work with this population and to work hard towards a dream.

Telehealth for your therapy needs is an option. There has been a lot of confusion lately due to regulatory changes. It requires our first session to be in-person and then we have to meet one time annually in-person after. I can do video through my patient portal or by phone call. We can also do a hybrid so you come in person when it works for you and we do telehealth when it doesn't. Call me for an appointment!

I have some openings for therapy so if you or someone you know has been considering it, please call!

Caring for a loved one can be a daunting task, both physically and emotionally. It's natural to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and drained as you take on the responsibility of providing support and care. But know that you're not alone, and there are ways to manage the stress that comes with this rewarding yet challenging role.
Firstly, acknowledge that your feelings are valid. It's okay to feel frustrated, anxious, or resentful at times. Recognize that these emotions are a normal response to the added pressure and responsibility.
Next, prioritize self-care. Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you relax, such as reading, taking a walk, or practicing yoga. Even small moments of respite, like taking a few deep breaths or sipping a cup of tea, can make a big difference.
Set realistic expectations for yourself and your loved one. Understand that you can't do everything, and it's essential to ask for help when you need it. Don't be afraid to reach out to family, friends, or professional caregivers for support.
Additionally, focus on the smaller tasks that you can accomplish each day. Break down larger tasks into manageable chunks, and celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem.
Lastly, take breaks and practice self-compassion. Allow yourself to rest, recharge, and reflect on your experiences. Remember that you're doing the best you can, and that's something to be proud of.
You got this! You're making a difference in the life of your loved one, and that's a remarkable thing. Keep going, even when it feels tough. You're stronger than you think, and with these techniques, you can navigate the stresses of caregiving with more ease and confidence. Please join us @ Knox County Nursing Home June 18, 2025 from 1-230pm for a light lunch and more techniques to manage the everyday stresses of caring for a loved one. This week, on Monday, I was asked to attend the caregiver support group at Macomb YMCA Senior Center. I spoke about self care, boundaries, and calming our nervous systems. Caregivers carry so much, yet rarely take the care they need for themselves. I was happy to provide some support to them!

Therapy For Positive Aging presented on Depression, Anxiety, and Aging yesterday at the Macomb YMCA Senior Center. It was a great turn out and they have a wonderful opportunity for seniors to socialize there.
