Reda Alami.MD.OBGYN Total Women's Health Dr. Alami moved to the beautiful town of St Augustine in 2008 after completing his residency at Michigan State University.

The appeal of the sea, sun and sand brought him to St Augustine but the expanding, diverse population with a small town manner is what kept him here. Although no snow is definitely a plus! Dr. Alami had the great honor of continuing care for the patients of the highly respected and well known retiring OBGYN, Dr. Juan Larroude. Since opening his own practice at the Flagler Hospital Campus he strives to continue this tradition of excellent care for women in this area. Dr. Alami specializes in all aspects of general Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a special interest in minimally invasive pelvic and urological procedures. In 2007, Dr. Alami earned a research award in the category of Obstetrics and Gynecology along with receiving a second award in the category of oral presentation in case research that same year. Dr. Alami is proud to have long time St Augustine Certified Nurse Midwife, Gloria Lelaidier to be part of his team. Together, they look forward to providing total women’s health care needs.

Becoming a mother might be the last thing on your mind right now. But you should set some goals about having (or not having) children — especially if you are s*xually active. This is called a reproductive life plan, and it also involves knowing what actions you will take to support your goals. Your personal values and beliefs will help you make your plan. See some examples below:

"I'm not ready to have children now. I will make sure I don't get pregnant by not having s*x or using birth control correctly every time I have s*x."

"I will wait to start having s*x until after I'm married. I won't get pregnant until that time. Once I'm married, my husband and I will decide together when it's the right time for us to start a family."

"I would like to have two children, at least two years apart in age. I also have diabetes. I will meet with my doctor now to discuss my preconception health. I will start trying to get pregnant as soon as I'm healthy. I will use birth control after my first baby to make sure I don't get pregnant again before I am ready."

"I want to finish school and be financially secure before starting a family. My husband and I will use an effective birth control all the time until we have met our goals and are ready to start a family."

"I will let pregnancy happen whenever it happens. Because I don't know when that time will be, I'll make sure that my body is healthy and ready for pregnancy at all times."

Cervical cancer screening should begin at age 21 years. Screening before age 21 should be avoided because it may lead to unnecessary and harmful evaluation and treatment in women at very low risk of cancer.

Cervical cytology screening is recommended every 2 years for women between the ages of 21 years and 29 years.

Women aged 30 years and older who have had three consecutive negative cervical cytology screening test results and who have no history of CIN 2 or CIN 3, are not HIV infected, are not immunocompromised, and were not exposed to diethylstilbestrol in utero may extend the interval between cervical cytology examinations to every 3 years.

In women who have had a total hysterectomy for benign indications and have no prior history of high-grade CIN, routine cytology testing should be discontinued.
