Crawling helps babies improve their problem-solving skills as well as improve strength and coordination. They need to figure out how to get from one place to another, or how to get a toy out of reach! Building shoulder and hand muscles will be a big benefit as they learn to feed themselves! Clear the floor—let your baby move!

Respiration is the act of breathing in and out. When you inhale, you take in oxygen. When you exhale, you give off carbon dioxide. There are many body organs involved with respiration - and many massage strokes to support healthy development of this system. It’s normal for newborn babies to take slight pauses in their breathing, or to go through short periods of rapid breathing. Babies tend to develop a more regular breathing pattern by 6 weeks. OF COURSE - any concerns should be addressed medically. Care must be taken with those premature babies as well — Calm And Nourish: Infant Massage and Education lessons are individualized to meet your baby’s needs. Share this with a new parent who is learning about how to support their new little one.

Gas, reflux, constipation…your baby is working hard to figure out digestion. Bodies mature significantly over the first 3-6 months - shifting from initially learning to manage breast milk and formula, to preparing for solid foods. Infants experience a lot of gas - it’s normal. But, the reality of gas is that it can be uncomfortable and cause distress. We know there are 2 ways to expel gas - burping and farting! Infant massage lessons show parents strategies to help their new baby and soften the effects of these common issues. Save this for after your next feed!

The circulatory system refers to how the body keeps blood moving through the body. After birth, the heart pumps blood through the whole body and through the lung, where it gets rid of carbon dioxide and collects oxygen. Veins and arteries carry blood to and from the heart and are present throughout your baby’s body. Using gentle, rhythmic, and body central strokes toward the heart, blood flow is enhanced, and immune function improved. Infant massage isn’t extra—it’s essential!
