National Senior Independence Month continues with another helpful tip for optimizing independent living!

A clean and organized environment is good for your mind, body, and soul! Making sure your space is decluttered not only helps keep the mind from being cluttered but it also keeps your walkways clear and safe, preventing trips and falls (which is a leading cause for senior hospitalizations and rehab). When you know where important things are (like a cell phone or other call devices) it helps ensure readiness if an emergency were to strike. Decluttering is also helpful with making sure all fridge and pantry items are staying up to date and not past the expiration! If getting started with decluttering your space feels overwhelming, ask a family member or friend to help! You can also consider hiring an organizing service to take on the job for you.
