This Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills group is a structured, educational group that teaches practical tools to help people better manage emotions, cope with distress, improve relationships, and reduce impulsive or self-destructive behaviors.
Unlike traditional group therapy that focuses on processing, this group is more like a class with discussion and real-life practice. This 8-week module will focus on Mindfulness and Distress Tolerance, providing concrete skills to increase emotional stability and resilience.
Mindfulness skills include learning how to stay present, observe thoughts and emotions without judgment, reduce emotional reactivity, and intentionally choose responses rather than reacting on impulse.
Distress Tolerance skills focus on surviving emotional crises without making situations worse, including strategies for managing urges, tolerating intense emotions, grounding during overwhelm, and using short-term coping tools when change is not immediately possible.
This group may be a good fit for adults experiencing intense emotions, mood instability, trauma-related symptoms, relationship difficulties, or who want practical, evidence-based strategies to cope more effectively in daily life.
