Sometimes when we are in trauma or are triggered, our body and mind are completely out of sync. How do we realign? There are many tricks we can put in our toolbox to help us, but my personal favorite is using breathwork. Calming our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems goes a long way in helping us calm down and regain some control, at least enough to pull us from the edge.
The key thing to remember with breathwork is: inhaling through the nose affects our sympathetic nervous system, where the fight or flight response manifests. Exhaling through the mouth affects the parasympathetic nervous system, where the faint or fawn response manifests. Being body and mind aware helps you determine which would be more effective for your current situation. I would love to talk with you further about this wonderful tool and teach you some tricks.
