Staff Spotlight: Noemi Mauricio
We're starting a new Staff Spotlight series to highlight our team and share their inspiring stories. In this week's spotlight, meet Noemi Mauricio, MPH, RN, supervisor of our Mobile Health program.

Noemi’s journey to healthcare is both inspiring and heartwarming. While she originally went to school to pursue a career in the wine industry, she felt something was missing. She didn’t have to look far for inspiration to find her calling. “Growing up in Napa Valley, I watched my farmworker father leave home before sunrise and return long after the day’s work, exhausted and covered in sweat and dirt. Like many others, he didn’t have the time, energy, or insurance to seek medical care.”

Living in the Valley, she saw farmworkers laboring through wildfire smoke, pouring rain, and extreme heat. “I felt like I needed to do something to support them,” she recalls. She decided to change course and pursue nursing.

From the very beginning, she knew her nursing path would look different. The hospital bedside wasn’t where she felt called to be—her heart was in the community. She wanted to meet people where they were and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

That purpose aligned perfectly with Adventist Health. With deep personal ties—her siblings were born at the hospital, and her mother received exceptional care there—joining the organization felt like coming full circle. “Adventist Health isn’t just committed to patients, but to employees too,” she says. “There’s a mission here to care for the whole person, and that really resonated with me.”

She joined the Mobile Health team as a new graduate nurse during the pandemic, stepping into a program designed to break down barriers to care. Since then, she has grown alongside the program, supported every step of the way by her team. Today, her work goes beyond traditional healthcare.

Through Mobile Health, she connects with people on a deeper level—listening to their stories, building trust, and providing essential services at no cost. Whether it’s offering screenings, distributing fresh produce to seniors, or helping families during the holidays, each interaction reinforces something powerful: healthcare isn’t just about vital signs—it’s about meeting people where they are.

“Sometimes healthcare isn’t just a blood pressure check,” she says. “It’s about providing care in a different way.”

By meeting people in places where they feel safe and supported, she’s helping rebuild trust in the healthcare system—ensuring people feel seen, heard, and cared for.

And for her, that’s exactly where she’s meant to be. “I’m made for community support,” she says. “Because everyone deserves access to care—and to be heard.”

Thank you, Noemi for sharing your story and for bringing access to care to those who need it most.

A few weeks ago, we celebrated another exceptional nurse as our DAISY Foundation awardee. Christina Coyner, RN from our Mental Health Unit was nominated by a patient, who recognized Christina's dedication to advocating for her patients.

The patient shared:
"I came in while having a mental health crisis. I struggled with severe anxiety. Christina was the only nurse who truly listened to me and showed genuine concern for what I was going through.

She consistently advocated for me and made sure to clearly communicate with the doctors so I could receive the help and medications I needed. Being someone who is in and out of the hospital often, that level of care meant a lot.

I would love to have Christina as my nurse again. She goes above and beyond for her patients and deserves recognition for all that she does. I know that when I have Christina as my nurse, she will always get me the help I need and advocate for me."

Congratulations, Christina and thank you for advocating for this patient. Join us in congratulating Christina for this recognition.

A few weeks ago, in recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, our team proudly wore blue—standing united in our commitment to raise awareness and save lives.

By wearing blue, we help start important conversations about symptoms, family history and when to talk with your doctor about screening.

We also took time to honor and stand alongside those affected by colorectal cancer, showing our support for patients, survivors, and their loved ones.

Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer-related death among adults under 50—but it doesn’t have to be. Screening can catch it early, when it’s most treatable, and can even prevent it altogether. That’s why our team is dedicated to sharing this life-saving message.

Thank you to everyone who wore blue and helped spark these important conversations. Let’s keep the momentum going—because awareness leads to action, and action saves lives.

“Colorectal cancer is common and preventable,” says James H. Tabibian, MD, PhD, FACP, Interventional Gastroenterology. “Most adults at average risk should begin screening at age 45, but those with higher risk factors, such as inflammatory bowel disease, family history, or certain genetic syndromes, may need to start earlier.”

Colonoscopy is the gold standard, but screening should be personalized.
Timely screening saves lives. Visit AdventistHealth.org/ColonScreening and talk with a healthcare professional to learn more about what’s right for you.

Access to care looks different in every community — and we’re working to ensure federal leaders understand what that means in rural Central California.

This week, we welcomed United States Department of Health and Human Services Regional Director of the West, Victoria Seaman, to Adventist Health Selma. She met with members of our leadership team as well as Adventist Health President and CEO Kerry L. Heinrich and Public Affairs and Community Impact Executive Julia Drefke.

We shared how Adventist Health is expanding access to care in rural communities by strengthening our workforce and investing in services closer to home, while addressing challenges faced by Medicare and Medicaid patients across the region.

These conversations help bring greater awareness to the needs of rural communities and reinforce our commitment to providing whole-person care, close to home.

Congratulations to Dr. Evan Bloom, our Chief Medical Officer, for being named as one of Becker's Hospital Review's Hospital and Health Systems Chief Medical Officers to Know.

Becker’s Hospital Review, a publication focusing on industry news for healthcare executives, emphasize the important role CMOs play in elevating patient safety, upholding rigorous quality standards, strengthening collaboration between executive leadership and medical staff, and guiding risk management efforts.

Becker's recognized Dr. Bloom for his leadership as chief medical officer for Adventist Health St. Helena and Adventist Health Clear Lake, leading clinical operations, quality and patient safety while aligning physician engagement and governance across both campuses.

At St. Helena, he built new clinical infrastructure, including a vascular and limb salvage program, a regional cardiology call coverage model spanning five hospitals and a formal mortality review structure.

At Clear Lake, Dr. Bloom led the hospital to CMS 5-star quality status for the first time and reduced mortality by 37% in 2025. He also expanded access in a rural tri-county region by launching and growing service lines including pulmonology, rapid care, palliative care, orthopedics, nephrology telemedicine, neurology and pain medicine. A board-certified emergency physician with deep public health and emergency preparedness experience, Dr. Bloom has also served as acting public health officer for Lake County, leading Covid-19 response and securing $3.7 million in public health funding.

Back to life: Teri’s Knee and Hip Replacement Story

Pain has a way of taking over our lives sometimes, going beyond the physical challenges. That’s exactly what Teri, from Cottonwood, CA, had to endure before she found help and support from Dr. Ryan Moore and our expert team at Adventist Health C**n Joint Replacement Institute

Teri’s journey with our team began in 2017, when she came to us for a partial knee replacement. The results were life changing.

“I followed Dr. Moore’s post-op instructions and was walking the Las Vegas Strip just six weeks later,” she shared. “Eight years later, that knee is still wonderful.”

But years later, Teri faced a new challenge—severe pain in her opposite leg that left her unable to walk or care for her disabled adult son.

“I decided I was too young to be immobile,” she said.

After local treatments didn’t bring relief, Teri returned to the team she knew and trusted. "I had so much life to live and I had people who depended on me. I knew I needed to do this." Within days, she was seen by Dr. Moore.

“He immediately had me at ease… and it turned out it wasn’t my knee—it was my hip.”

With a clear plan in place, Teri moved forward with surgery, feeling hopeful every step of the way.

“Three weeks later, I was rolling into surgery excited and happy. The staff at Adventist Health took really good care of me.”

The results were just as transformative as before. “As promised by Dr. Moore, my knee pain was completely gone after surgery.”

Her recovery was swift—and powerful. “Three weeks later, I was walking without any assistance. Six weeks later, I was back to normal—lifting my son and walking a 12-minute mile.”

Today, Teri is pain-free and back to doing what matters most -- making memories with those she loves.
“I have a new lease on life. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Moore and his team.”
