February is all about healthy smiles! As we celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month, we’re here to cheer on your family with tips and encouragement to help your child learn to care for their teeth.

Last week, our team looked radiant in red, as we joined the nation in wearing red to raise awareness for women’s heart health.

It’s a simple but powerful way to spotlight an important fact: heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in the United States. By wearing red, we help spark conversations about healthy habits, regular checkups, and taking time to care for your heart.

With education, early detection, and expert support, lives can be saved. Our team is proud to care for so many hearts in our community — from preventive care to advanced interventional and surgical treatments.

Thank you to our teams for wearing red and for bringing their hearts to caring for our community every day.

Sickle cell disease is a common inherited blood disorder, and the nationwide newborn screening program in the U.S. is thanks to Dr. Marilyn Hughes Gaston’s discovery in 1986 that early treatment led to better health and longer lives. As we recognize Black History Month, we’re celebrating key pioneers like Dr. Gaston who have resisted injustice to create more well-being for all.

Don't forget to join us in wearing red tomorrow, Friday, February 6!

February is American Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease, the leading cause of death for women in the United States.

National Wear Red Day, observed on February 6, shines a spotlight on women’s heart health and the importance of prevention, education, and early detection.

Why Wear Red?
• Heart disease causes 1 in 3 deaths among women each year.
• Nearly 45% of women age 20 and older are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.
• Many women do not recognize the warning signs of a heart attack, which can differ from those experienced by men.

By wearing red, we help spark conversations, raise awareness, and show support for the women in our lives—our mothers, daughters, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.

We invite our community to join us tomorrow by wearing red and standing together in support of heart health awareness.

Craig Gleason was returning from an adventure of a lifetime, one he had been dreaming of since childhood, when an unexpected heart attack caused his heart to stop beating. It took the quick action of a loved one and a team of experienced providers to bring life back to his heart.

“After all is said and done, I’m just so thankful to have my life back,” Craig says. “The cooling treatment and all the exceptional treatment I received — both at Adventist Health and from my cousin and the first responders — really saved and restored my life.”

Being in the hospital during special occasions can be challenging. But our team knows that you're made for more special moments even when you're in the hospital and came together for one of our patients recently.

During his rounds, Chaplain Heber was visiting patients and offering support when he met Patricia and learned she was turning 93 that very day. Not wanting the moment to pass unnoticed, Heber quickly notified our care team. Before she knew it, the team had organized an impromptu birthday celebration complete with cake, balloons, plenty of fanfare, and heartfelt birthday cheer.

Thank you to our team at Adventist Health Howard Memorial for jumping into action and thank you, Patricia, for trusting us with your care and allowing us to share in this special moment. Happy Birthday!

Congratulations to our Adventist Health Delano DAISY Foundation Award winner, Gloria Tabion, RN. 🌼

Gloria’s genuine compassion and positive presence made a lasting impact during a patient’s hospital stay. "I honestly felt like she truly cared about my health and saw me as a person and not just another patient. She gave me advice for my health and life and I’m just grateful I had her as a nurse and got to meet a wonderful person."

By taking the time to truly listen, connect, and care for the whole person, she helped transform a difficult moment into one filled with comfort and encouragement. Thank you, Gloria, for the heart you bring to nursing and the meaningful difference you make for patients every day.

We’re proud to share that Adventist Health Simi Valley has officially completed 1,000 procedures using the new da Vinci DV5 robotic system — a significant achievement for our surgical teams and our community.

As one of the first hospitals to receive the da Vinci 5 in 2024 ahead of its public release, this milestone reflects our commitment to bringing the latest advancements in technology and minimally invasive surgery to the patients we serve.

This accomplishment is made possible by the dedication and collaboration of our surgeons, nurses, perioperative teams, and clinical staff, who continue to raise the standard of care every day.
