Some of the complications of diabetes, such as neuropathy and peripheral vascular diseases, make feet vulnerable to non-healing ulcers. To stay on top of foot health, check your feet daily and wear proper footwear. If you or a loved one has diabetes and discovers a non-healing wound or foot ulcer, call (906) 328-2157 for an appointment at our Mackinac Straits Advanced Wound Center.

🌾 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗦𝗛𝗦! 🌾

Yesterday, our team came together to honor the dedication, resilience, and compassion that define rural healthcare. Five talented team members faced off in a friendly Chili Cook-Off, filling the day with fun, flavor, and plenty of friendly competition! 🍲

To keep the celebration going, staff enjoyed a complimentary lunch featuring hearty chili, warm cornbread, and delicious cake—served with appreciation for all they do to support our patients and community.

Thank you to every member of the MSHS team for the incredible work you do each day. 💙🏥

For most, a blister or cut on the foot is a minor inconvenience that a Band-Aid™ and time will heal, but that’s not the case for the 38.4 million Americans with diabetes. Complications of diabetes, like neuropathy and peripheral vascular diseases, make feet vulnerable to ulcers that can lead to infection and even amputation.

Join us at Little Bear East Arena & Community Center from 11 AM to 1 PM for a Farmers Market–style food distribution supported by Feeding America.

🚗 Each vehicle may receive food for up to two households.
📝 If someone is picking up food on your behalf, please provide them with a proxy note.

Whether you’re trick-or-treating, attending a costume party, or passing out candy, here are a few safety tips to keep the night full of treats—not tricks:

🕯️ 𝐁𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐧: Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes and carry a flashlight.
🚸 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭: Watch for traffic and use sidewalks and crosswalks.
🍬 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬: Only enjoy factory-sealed goodies.
🧙‍♀️ 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤: Make sure costumes fit well and don’t block vision or movement.

💗 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬! Getting a mammogram is one of the most important things you can do for your health.

This month, Kim of St. Ignace has been spreading awareness in a heartfelt way by crocheting over 100 pink ribbon pins to give to patients receiving a mammogram. 🩷

Pictured are Kim and Karen, MSHS Radiology Technician, with the Mammogram Pink Basket! 🎀 One lucky patient will win the basket at the end of October.

We were honored to host Debb and the Upper Peninsula Michigan Works team during their recent visit to Mackinac Straits Health System.

It was a great opportunity to share the work our staff are doing to provide quality care across our region and to discuss ongoing workforce challenges and opportunities.
We appreciate the continued partnership and support from Michigan Works! as we work together to strengthen healthcare in our northern communities. 🤝
