As the philanthropic arm of Corewell Health in Southwest Michigan, we have been supporting the mission since 1984. Since its inception in 1984, the Lakeland Health Foundations have distributed over $30 million in gifts to improve and enhance medical care to thousands of people Lakeland Health serves. Gifts made to the Lakeland Health Foundations provide for the margin of excellence that characteri

Through provision of financial resources over and above revenues, the Foundations make possible additional investments in medical technology and equipment while expanding the knowledge of our professional staff, and supporting outreach services and health education for our community.

Healing happens in many forms.

Through our partnership with the Krasl Art Center the Art Angels program brought creative expression and emotional relief to 1,059 patients across four Corewell Health locations in just six months. From cancer care to pediatrics, behavioral health and long-term care, art is helping reduce stress, inspire hope and restore a sense of control — one brushstroke at a time.
Thank you to our Art Angels!

Connecting Community, Care, and Vision in Niles

We were honored to host a donor luncheon at the Corewell Health Niles Hospital last week, bringing together community members who help make local care possible.

During the event, Foundation President Melinda Gruber and Corewell Health South President Natalie Baggio shared strategic updates on our community’s evolving needs and the overarching goals and vision for health care in Niles. Following the luncheon, guests enjoyed behind-the-scenes tours of key hospital areas—including the Birth Center, Surgery, Emergency, the Heart Center, and the ICU—offering a firsthand look at how generosity and partnership translate into exceptional care close to home.

Thank you to our donors and community partners for your continued support and belief in the future of health care in Niles. Together, we’re building healthier communities.

This week, we celebrate the incredible volunteers of Corewell Health South who give their time, compassion and talents across so many care centers and roles throughout our health system.

From supporting patients and families in the Emergency Department, to offering comfort and companionship to hospice patients, our volunteers show up where care matters most. From welcoming smiles in our gift shops, to the creativity behind beautiful flower arrangements, to the joy and comfort shared by our amazing pet therapy teams — every role makes a true difference.

No matter the location or task, our volunteers bring kindness, dedication, and heart into everything they do. Your impact is felt by patients, families, visitors, and staff every single day.

Thank you for being the hands, hearts, and helping spirits of Corewell Health South. We are deeply grateful for you—this week and always. At Corewell Health Southwest, our Simulation Training Center plays a critical role in preparing physicians, nurses, and clinical teams to deliver safe, high‑quality care — before they ever treat a real patient. Using lifelike manikins and hands‑on simulation, caregivers practice procedures, teamwork and decision‑making in a risk‑free environment.
But our current equipment needs an upgrade. That’s why our 2026 Impact Celebration on June 13th is focused on raising funds to upgrade this essential training space. New technology will bring more realistic simulations, less downtime and better preparation — leading to safer, more confident care for our community.
Join us and help shape the future of healthcare. Purchase tickets or donate toward the updated Simulation Training Center here: https://2026Impact.givesmart.com

Today is International Pet Day, and we’re celebrating the volunteer therapy dogs who bring comfort, calm, and connection across Corewell Health Southwest.
From easing anxiety in hospital settings to providing quiet companionship in hospice care, these incredible dogs support healing in ways medicine alone cannot. Their presence brings smiles, lowers stress, and offers moments of peace for patients, families and caregivers alike.
Thanks to community support, therapy dogs continue to play a vital role in whole person care — showing us that sometimes the most powerful kind of healing comes with four paws, a gentle heart and a wagging tail.

Last week, Troop # 52020 generously donated 102 boxes of cookies to team members at Corewell Health Niles Hospital. During their visit, the scouts enjoyed a behind‑the‑scenes look at surgical prep, explored medical tools, and visited the labor and delivery unit to see newborns in the nursery.

In appreciation, the troop received a Community Compassion Award and some Corewell swag. We’re grateful for their generosity and thoughtfulness—it truly made our team members feel appreciated!

Happy World Health Day! Today is celebrated annually to raise global awareness about health issues and promote equitable access to healthcare. This ties directly to Corewell Health’s vision of providing a future where health is simple, affordable, equitable, and exceptional.

The Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation (SWMCF), part of Corewell Health Foundation Southwest Michigan, proudly supports Christian medical missions around the world. Several of our Corewell Health Southwestern Medical Clinic(SWMC) physicians are currently serving internationally, including Drs. Jon and Megan Steen at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya and Dr. Cole in Asia.

Beyond supporting individual mission projects, the SWMCF helps provide international hospitals and physicians with essential medical equipment, capital project support, and other resources that strengthen care in underserved communities.

As we recognize World Health Day, we honor the physicians and SWMC who bring hope and healing to underserved communities around the world. Their work reflects our shared vision of making health more accessible, equitable, and exceptional for all.
